Hi everyone. I'd like to ask for your recommendations on how to properly introduce myself to Papa Legba. My only intention is to respectfully introduce myself, not to ask for anything. What would you consider an appropriate protocol? I've looked through several books, but I've found a lot of conflicting information, especially in English, and I'm not sure which sources are trustworthy. I'd really appreciate any guidance or recommendations for reliable sources or advice from those with experience.

Properly ? You make a circle with a cross in the middle with the loa having different sections , you choose Papa Legba , you draw his veve , make his offerings and follow out the rest of the ritual .

I suppose a lone person could draw the veve and make the right offerings ..... a bit of drumming might help ... sing him a song ;

I remember in the early days I was really interested in loa/orisha but didn't know much about doing anything. Some books offered a bit of guidance.

I drew the veves and read some specific prayers, I kept reading them over and over again. Then I added requests to everything. The rest I can't remember so well anymore. I think there were some offerings in the mix.

This gave strange states where I felt guided, intuition, thoughts kept coming. Then interesting dreams came. The method I followed was starting with Legba and then invocations to Oshun/Yemaye, Shango, some others.

Some say these systems shouldn't be approached without a proper initiation. There was a guy who went to Nigeria to receive it, the process took several days. After that he said there was a strong connection. I think you'd be better off with a serious teacher, somebody who works the path, knows everything. I wonder if there's anybody here who deals with that, walks this path.:unsure:

Thank you both, @Firetree and @Amadeus . I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I'll follow your advice and work with the veve and offerings. And as a small personal offering, I'm going to compose a blues song on my grandfather's guitar in honor of Papa Legba, even if it's not very good, haha.

Thank you again.
