It turns out I would like to post here far more often than I actually make time to post, consequently I always think I have already posted something....
I find no evidence that I made this post before - not in this timeline at least - so away I go with it.
DISCLAIMER: I had to unpack a fair amount of shit ahead of my point and question. Apologies but I saw no way around this and if you aren't really into planetary magic and especially planetary timing this post is probably just going to annoy you, so you may wish to click away.
I found an interesting article on an astrologer's blog (Christopher Warnock Esq.) some time ago wherein the author discussed the modular arithmetic inherent to the planetary timing systems in common usage. It was a good read, and I liken his explanation to the synchronicity of the heptagram, where drawing the star between the planets gives you the planetary days of the week ordering and moving clockwise around the outside of the star shows the Chaldean order of planets.
Here is the URL I couldn't get the code to work: (user error I am sure)
I dig synchronicity-serendipity type shit. It feels all profound and whatnot like something hardcoded into the fabric of reality.
Anyway the blogger showed how to go from the Chaldean order to weekday order and back again seamlessly using this mod math, and during the process found a new sequence he dubbed the third planetary order. He later tried to tie the third order into the daytime and nighttime rulers of the astrological triplicities, which sort of works but only if we use a different elemental sequence.
In other words I normally see triplicities listed as fire, earth, air, water and no doubt there is some reason for this; there is always a reason the four qualities are listed in a particular order. The third order pairs, if you look at the sequence that way would order the elements as air, water, earth, fire so it's not the same sequence - not even in reverse I don't know why he tries to tie that in.
Anyway...
The "third planetary order" he found using a simple mathematical operation that spits out the weekday order and Chaldean order in a kind of "seamless" way is Mercury, Saturn, Mars, Venus, Luna, Jupiter, Sol.
One thing you probably noticed - and idk if this aligns with any significant astrological sequence for charts or whatever but it is cool - each planet in this sequence is the first nighttime hour of the day ruled by the planet directly after it in the sequence.
Mercury is the first nighttime hour of Saturn, Saturn is the first nighttime hour of Mars, and so on. So there is order and serendipity here.
Wornock then extrapolates, I wonder if this third order scheme belongs to some other timing function? He hypothetically applied it to planetary minutes.
I think this is an awesome idea because it potentially opens the doorway to powerful operations or acts within a larger operation, not to mention provides greater nuance for operations desiring a secondary planetary influence.
A wrong turn he took, in my opinion was to try an apply the sequence to 60-minute hours, which of course won't work in the planetary timing scheme.
So here's what I did and I would like feedback from any other planetary magic nerds or by all means if there are experts among us please share your thoughts.
1. I began with the sequence of planets he called the Third Order. This again is Mercury, Saturn, Mars, Venus, Luna, Jupiter, Sol
2. It makes sense to me the first minute of each hour should be ruled by the same planet ruling the hour, just like the day and hour of sunrise share the same ruler.
3. The sequence of planetary minutes would need to end on a position allowing for the first minute of the next hour to correspond to the planetary ruler of that hour also, obviously.
4. I chose 8 initially which works but 24 may be a better fit as everything else in the planetary timing scheme is somewhat nested. 24 hours in a day so perhaps 24 minutes in a planetary hour is best. this works for keeping the first minute ruled by the ruler of the hour.
5. I divide the number of actual minutes in my planetary hour by the designator chosen for planetary minutes. So for today 71 minutes per daytime hour divided by 8 = .87 or divided by 24 =2.95 I would round up either way to the next minute for 9 or three minutes.
I don't see why either of these wouldn't be fine but I reluctantly think 24 is more coherent. That's a brief window in a working hour but should also be concentrated power.
Has anyone here tried anything like this before?
What am I missing? How can I make this tighter or more coherent?
Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.
P.S. As this is a forum, after all, I should remember to pre-emptively post a couple of FAQ answers...
1. Why bother? Timing matters and maybe I want a Mercury moment in the midst of a Saturnine hour.
2. Overthinking? I thought that's what occultism was. If not for a shitload of overthinking through the ages would we have any of our source material, really?
3. But can you do a handstand? No. I once could, but now I am old, so no.
4. Aren't you just trying to be a smarty pants? I have learning disabilities in some really fundamental areas. Stuff you take for granted breaks my brain, so definitely no.
5. Oh yea? Well I'm a snarky goth-kid and I think you're just a sellout normie white guy who doesn't understand the lefthand path. I know; and I am ashamed.
