Poem: Burning Light

Title: Burning Light
Like fire
I used to burn bright
Now I just see the waves
As they come crashing against the tide
My breathing won't calm down
My hands tingle
Beneath the ground I feel the death of one I used to know
Is it the past of loss after loss or a person who I could've been?
Is it pain for what should've been and should've not or uncertainty of the next wave?
As the world turns
I worry I shall never find peace
Waves of memories from childhood to adulthood begin to fill
Never resting never safe my mind screams
To protect from certain pain
I sometimes wish to drown and rest
Yet I keep on keeping on
For one day I will learn to be a light
For now I mend my shattered heart and mind
I have hope in the light I see
For a future bright.
