Do you think there are magical systems that can affect your mental and physical health for the worse? If so, why and how? If not, why not?

I did a Tarot reading on whether I should practice a certain system. The results were almost ideal for finance, romance, and spiritual growth, but when it came to health effects the predictions were dire:

Q: How will this path affect my physical health?
A: The Tower - danger, conflict, unforeseen catastrophe, ambitions

Q: How will this path affect my mental health?
A: The Devil - bondage, materiality, necessity, force, fate

What do you think? Should I move forward but just work hard on taking care of myself?

Several years ago I asked my mentor for a set curriculum of magical study. He thought for a few minutes and then recommended one saying, ”this one is safe”. At the time I thought it was an odd comment. When I began the lessons I found the repeated caution “These lessons are perfectly safe as long as you do them exactly as instructed“. Now, after 2 1/2 years of study, I understand that warning.

Everything begins as thought. Anything with the power to affect thought is dangerous. When I first started my curriculum I thought it was unnecessarily slow, but I persisted at the recommended pace. Now I am glad that I did.

It's entirely up to you, but since you are asking; ABSOLUTELY F#%&ING NOT.

If your physical and mental health both go, the money, love, revenge, or whatever else you get will mean very little. I'd suggest divineing in more detail on what, if anything, can be done to mitigate the health risks, why these risks are there in the first place, and holding off until you find solid solutions.

Yes, all of them. A possible exception would be the Candali I practice, which seems to actually be designed to be safe for beginners to work through in a step by step manner. I can't imagine why all magick systems aren't designed like this, but they aren't.

I mean, good health is not everything and there are things for which it should be sacrificed without a second thought, but it generally comes before the other things you've listed. You can enjoy good health while poor, alone and not well-read, but there's little use in riches, love or arcane lore if you're diseased or insane.

May I ask what kind of a path it is?
