Because this question has been asked many times, and it looks like people are giving advice and links here already, I am going to offer some indirect and secondary advice (take it as you will).
Something you may come to discover while you research the fringe topics of human experience that we call the esoteric or the occult is that a large part of it might be summed up as the practice and theory of the art of living (or more famously said,
“Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will”). You might also come to learn that a lot of this is done through symbolism, whether in communication or practice.
So, while reading occult things is just as important as doing things, I would recommend, as a primer, expanding your symbolic repertoire alongside the wonderful suggestions that you might be given in the form of reading lists. Explore art, music, tv, movies, books, and the natural world. My personal favorite (with the added bonus of having an occult bent) is the poetry of William Blake.
Apologies for my rambling, I hope it will be helpful to someone someday.
