Like everyone else said this is a bit broad and the best method is usually whichever one you have experience & success with in the past. Going out and figuring out a new method/tradition will often end up with a hit or miss (toss a coin) outcome so not the best to guarantee someone’s safety.
That being said, let me offer the suggestion of a charm bag.
- Allows a physical item to work with which is always very helpful. Especially if you are newer. Allows you to anchor the working to the bag. Allows you to layer methods of protection. Allows the target to have a physical item to hold onto thereby reinforcing the working. Downside the target has to be onboard with the whole protection bit or you could just hide the bag within their residence.
- Can be created with any tradition.
- Can be as complex or simple as you want to make it. Multiple layers and the resulting complexity is where these shine.
**I haven’t made one in 8-9 years, while they are very effective I just haven’t had the need for a new one in quite awhile and they do take planning and effort to do right. And tbh 99.99% of the people only need the most basic protection. We often think we’re more important and the focus of another’s attention/effort more than we really are. These days I usually stick to simpler methods but I live a very boring life these days.
Example of how I’ve made these in the past may help you with some ideas.
Ritual: Period of purification, timing, exorcise the area, open the ways, Solomonic circle, incense, license to depart, the whole bit.
Bag: New unused small bag. I prefer less processed materials and a simple drawstring of leather or twine. Consider sewing it together yourself during the ritual if you have the skill. (In the past I had thought of adding symbols/words to the inside to the bag but never actually tried it.)
Basis for the working: Pick one item of magic as the foundation of the working. Maybe this is a particular talisman or item. I prefer using a gkos (greater key of Solomon) pentacle, a sigil (chaote style), the protective prayer from the Grim Verum (crosses written in the targets blood), etc… Create/consecrate this item first in the ritual.
Then reinforce the working with appropriate correspondences, talismans, protective symbols, names of power, meditation, prayers, visualizations, etc… Create and evoke the power of each as a mini ritual within the larger ritual. Then you consecrate the bag as a whole once it’s completed, for me this is often passing the bag through the incense while I meditate, read the appropriate psalms, pray over it, etc... If needed for a long term item consider repeating the bag consecration periodically.
Proper planning of what you are going to do is key. Make sure the individual parts make sense as a whole item.
**You can combine some of the above and additional ideas in interesting ways. One of my most useful items had parchment paper with a gkos pentacle on one-side and a chaos magic sigil on the other as the foundational item of the working.
