Ranking of the entities

There are definite hierarchies for the legions of demons and angels and various books seem to detail these. However, many of them are "ancient" (everything is relative, after all). I was wondering, are these hierarchies "updated"? If so, when and by whom? If there is indeed a changing process at the rank level, does the process automatically involve promotion or not?

Promotions and Demotions occur all the time, especially in the underworld.
They have the concept of time, yes. They also have time on their side
