Instead of summoning a spirit, have you ever gone to it, and its own realm?

Is this a better alternative?

I think you are thinking of scrying, astral projection.
Since spirits are all around us, you could simply cleanse the area with banishings, but then since you don't want to invoke or evoke, you would still need a road map. How about a unique sigil?
Project yourself into it as a doorway and like a compass, it should take you to that particular entities 'location' .
