I come from a background in theoretical physics and complex networks, I’ve spent much of my time thinking about complex systems, networks, and the ways in which simple interactions can give rise to surprisingly rich and emergent structures like how single neurons unaware of their existence in large enough quantities and the proper structure can give place to a brain which is aware of itself. Recently, I’ve become increasingly curious about esoteric traditions and the kinds of questions they have explored throughout history—questions about consciousness, reality, symbolism, perception, and the relationship between the individual and the larger whole.
I’m very much at the beginning of this path. I don’t consider myself knowledgeable about esotericism yet, and I’m approaching it primarily with curiosity and an open mind as a child who just learned that something exists. My scientific background naturally makes me inclined toward questioning assumptions, looking for underlying structures, and distinguishing between what can be demonstrated and what remains speculative. At the same time, I’m interested in learning how to approach esoteric traditions on their own terms rather than immediately trying to translate everything into the language of physics even if I use the language of physics in order to understand things better.
My work with complex networks has perhaps made me especially sensitive to the idea that systems can contain relationships and patterns that aren't obvious when we look at their individual components in isolation. That perspective has made some esoteric ideas particularly intriguing to me, although I’m still learning how much of that connection is genuinely meaningful and how much is simply an analogy I’m imposing from my own background.
For now, I’m mainly here to learn—to become familiar with the traditions, their history, symbols, practices, and ways of thinking, and to engage with people who have traveled further along this path than I have.
