I have a sourdough starter I'm tending to at the moment. I keep looking at it grow so quickly and I can't help but feel there's magic potential there (it also makes me feel weirdly connected to it lol.) Have any of you used starter for magic?

It’s a rather unusual question, one I had honestly never considered before, lol. As an archetype, though, I feel it is incredibly powerful because it embodies slow transmutation — true alchemical work — along with invisible growth, the kind of magic that acts quietly beneath the surface. It carries ancestral nourishment, the memory of the Earth itself, and a sense of genealogical continuity, since it is passed down, divided, and multiplied over time.

Sourdough starter is cyclical by nature: it is fed, it rests, it grows, it renews itself. For this reason, it can become a perfect symbol either for breaking a cycle or for initiating a new one, very much in resonance with the Wheel, the Major Arcana.

I will try to create a manifestation for a new cycle using the Wheel as the central archetype and a bit of sourdough starter as the element of Earth. Perhaps under Jupiter — I’m not entirely sure why, but I strongly feel a connection between this energy and him.

I'm glad you picked up on my thought process there lol, nicely stated. It definitely has strong Earth energies. I also feel while it has the same steady growth properties that a plant has, it expands so quickly that it could be used for faster manifestations. Like you said, this is a very strange subject so I'm not sure I'm putting it in the best way, but that's kinda where my thinking is at. I appreciate all the connections you drew, definitely useful for deeper reflection 🙂

I’m fortunately an extremely curious person, and since I often work with kitchen witchcraft and green magic, I believe I’ll consider running a few tests :)
The universe speaks in strange ways, and what you’ve proposed feels unusual — and precisely for that reason, it absolutely deserves to be tested :)

I feel so honored 😇 Let me know how things go, I do my work in the same areas so I'm very curious. I'll be doing my own tests with this soon, probably to start I'll try a meditative process as I'm caring for the starter. I'll figure out the best way to use it in kitchen magic and manifestations from there.
