Spiritual psycosis?

Okay, this may be silly but I genuinely want to know others thoughts or experiences.
Long story short I have family history of schizophrenia. I have had a few psychosis episodes involving religion/spirituality (I count magick as a part of this in my identify) while taking edibles.
How do you decipher the difference? Is it just discernment? Im honestly scared to get into things like using gazes/meditation/things that involve and open you to receiving without a physical medium. Please feel free to share your experiences as well! I want to learn from others journeys.

I have a family history of Schizophrenia. I have relatives going back generations that were declared bearing the gift of Medicine to outright physically restrained due to psychotic impulses deemed by Catholic Priests to be the work of the Devil so they outlawed the Society of Firekeepers of my Tribe for over 150 years. Today, Schizophrenia is monitored and the fear of having bouts or issues would have been exposed if you have ever been checked. Edibles, depending on if they are THC or psilocybin, are "enhancers," (though THC does nothing for me except hate the way I smell afterwards) and can be beneficial- or annoying. My personal practice utilized no substances except drumming and firekeeping.

Take it for what you will. I worked with and around a lot of substances- worked with Schizophrenic Medicine Workers, worked with multiple groups of differing tribes and nations who had their own Medicine and also dealt with the Plastic Shamans who were there for a surreal journey of the good stuff(peyote) they knew nothing about except by reading Leary's Psychedelic Experience.

I am done with using substances except caffeine. If you wish to experience external sensory work, I recommend drumming. Get a big drum and beat it until you achieve your own ecstatic joy. Light a bonfire and call upon your local land spirits. Just be!

You wont know when you are in a psychosis, simply because of how psychosis works. You have to have somebody external let you know when you are drifting.
