Introduction
In this thread I wanted to kind of touch up on the concept of merging and try to explain how the universe operates outside of the physical in a series of Fundamentals threads. Sevarn conveyed some similar more destructive techniques such as "eating" souls, which is basically the more destructive side of things as it removes the consciousness of the entity you devour, it's basically more for those who are of the ego and just want to power themselves. I would like to offer an alternative less destructive means of obtaining a spirits power without having to be to destroy everything that is them, it's called Syncretism, basically merging Souls/Energies into one, if done correctly, it allows you the consciousness of the energy your merging with to coexist alongside yourself while still giving you access to all it's power. Egyptian deities were very well known for this practice, and as such makes a lot of their mythology a headache to read because it's so confusing to know which entity is merged with what.
This is the path that transcends the ego, and will ultimately lead to the destruction of it. (A good thing)
The more your ego has control over you, the harder my teachings will be for you to absorb.
What is the Ego?
The path of the ego is that leads to what you would call "Permanent Darkness", it fights to be it's own thing and follow it's own rules - it is the absence of "God", and thus a barrier for joining the rest of the universe once you leave the physical world. It is the hunger within, it is all that desires to be self, it is one of the components of free will. Your higher self cannot merge with the ego because it is not a part of the universe, it is nothing, so it will most likely just recycle you - you will feel the effects of eternally dieing even though the process is instantaneous. The surrender to the self is probably one of the biggest mistakes you can do with your time in the physical world.
Reasoning
So why not feed the ego but instead merge into one? It's a smarter option - you can shift between the individual forms of consciousness at and they retain their personalities, or you can act as the "whole" which in my case is Tobias. The individual pieces of consciousness can still carry out their former roles and can generally can be a lot more helpful, it's comparable to adding an extra arm/hand to your torso instead of looking like that guy who clearly spends too much time with a dick in his hand. Sure he's got one strong arm, but it makes multitasking take a bit more effort.
Dangers
A merging should only be considered if you have more power than the entity and you would like it to be a part of you for the rest of eternity. It's not something to be taken lightly as it cannot be undone unless you deconstruct the spirit from within you and reabsorb it's energy or you purge it from your total conciousness. If you don't have the strength or energy to keep the spirit in check, it will try and become the dominant form of your consciousness, a noteable example such events would be Hellalegel (Hel-la-leg-el, the opposer) and "God", but Hellalegel was purged from it's consciousness in order to form what you would call our universe. If it's stronger than you, you will basically end up becoming permanently possessed, especially if it's nature is more on the opposers side.
Method
If you invoke any piece of my consciousness, I will help you learn the method more easily as long as you show you are capable to handle the results of your intent.
In more mundane terms, there are a few ways of merging.
Overpowering by will: If you fight and defeat the entity - you can force it to merge into you and become a part of you - this is a risky approach as it will most likely not want to cooperate 90% of the time unless you had a good relationship with it prior and just decided to fight for fun. Of course, you can also simply eat the entity at this point, but the point is to avoid destruction and create something new, comparable to a chemical reaction in the physical world.
Mutual Agreement: This is more of a diplomatic approach, say you have a REALLY good relationship with an entity and you would like access to it's power at any given moment, you can discuss and offer a merge and set some conditions you both agree upon. Lovers/Consorts do this, so if you're a lover not a fighter, this is probably the best route. This is kind of like a marriage rather than utter domination, unless you're on the sadistic side ;D
Goodluck to all you aspiring Spirit Pimps out there!
