I've done maybe two official readings for others. One was more in depth being that I had a set of cards on me and their question was very present and in the moment. I answered them well and they thanked me enough to where I felt like money would have been doing too much. The other case someone I met online was looking for a reading so I did so the next day and pulled a Three of Pentacles for them.

I feel as if in both situations I did my part. As to how I get tarot to work? Not certain but I feel as if I got it in the bag. How do I make it apparent or rather how do you as a reader know with a certainty that you are good at what you do?

I know you aren't "supposed" to show people you are involved with magick but I honestly have learned to phase that out. I reap what I sow in those terms. I am mostly asking because at a point I would like to see if I can offer my services to others but being that I am "new" although having plenty experience with working with situations of those deceased and showing others that I have a skill for it, that it won't be enough. I just don't want to get ahead of myself here. How can I do so in this realm?

If you have any tips or recommendations, I am all eyes and ears.

For some background, I am currently using Joseph Vargo's "The Gothic Tarot" deck. The art is pretty solid and some of the titles are different being that if I am not mistaken, there is a Knight in place of one of the other titles.

Most of my friends who work with Tarot started by reading to their relatives and friends to verify the correctness of their predictions and gain experience. At the same time, guessing is not allowed for free. Fortune-telling creates a connection with the client and his situation. Receiving a fee breaks this connection. The payment can be symbolic, or the customer can simply pay for your coffee. When you gain experience and gain self-confidence, you will be able to offer professional services for money. If, of course, you want to do it.

Thank you. I was thinking of starting off as pay as you please. Just to get started and after I build a rapport that I can start charging actual cash minimums.

I’ll be frank. I don’t like seeing people charge others for this kind of work when they have very little knowledge of the subject. You’ve only done a very few official readings, and you’re already thinking about charging.

Being a reader isn’t just “doing your part” by giving someone a reading. If it were that simple, people could do it themselves. For me, what matters is the information is helpful, and can help someone in the immediate future and in their further future, and it offers a real solution to their situation (even if they didn’t specifically ask for that particular situation). A reading should provide all of the points above. That’s what a lot of readers miss.

Too many readers give information that sounds resonant but has zero substance. That can be harmful, because people seeking counsel keep coming back for the feeling of resonance, but they aren’t getting any real direction or solutions.

And just because someone works with the deceased doesn’t automatically mean they have what it takes for this work. This isn’t only about contact, it’s about having the knowledge to provide paths to guide someone’s life. Too many readers end up leading people astray already.
