Today I tried Tarot reading for the first time and had remarkable success. I chose Aleister Crowleys Thoth Deck as I like his books and other work. The question I asked was what my life will be like if I practice Magic and I got incredibly accurate answers that really reflect my feelings on the subject and gave me a lot of insight. What are your thoughts on Tarot reading and what success have you had with it?

I use the classic Tarot de Marseilles deck. A good reading is one which provides a pattern for ongoing meditation. I find myself thinking about some of my readings weeks after I record them. I had to go through over a hundred or more confusing readings and many different layouts before I found the right balance for me. Different decks have particular personalities, so to speak. I think that books (including the Little White Book that comes with each deck) are fine to get started, but ultimately the more one knows occult philosophy, archetypes, numerology, and elements, the better equipped one is to make the most of divination with tarot.

It's like everything else, practice is pretty critical. I've read sources that say it's somehow disrespectful to use tarot readings for frivolous or casual questions, but my experience is that the need to practice and learn your own way of reading and interpreting, as well as understanding how you connect with different decks, trumps. If you're new to reading, I'd strongly suggest doing a daily reading with a light question or none at all, just to get used to understanding how what you read reflects in your life. If you're practiced and do readings regularly, I'd suggest you use different decks, because sometimes different decks resonate with different moods and situations.

There are times when I simply can't read right, and it's good to learn when those are for you, too. Emotional upset, physical illness; not all states affect everyone the same way, so I found it really helpful to know when I simply can't get a good interpretation no matter what, and what states I can be in and get sharp, very successful readings. It's not always what I expected; for instance, I can get very clear readings when I'm physically ill.

I love those readings when the answer is so blazingly clear, you remember them for years, and they stay relevant.

I like to ask questions about myself or the cosmos and do the reading. I've done readings for others before, but it took years of study on tarot.
Same here. I sometimes do readings for my kids and they seem happy with them, but I'm not very confident. When I do them for myself, however, I get some really profound results on occasion. Sometimes I use tarot for when I get stuck on writing. I have a book called Tarot for Writers, but usually I just use the images in them, not necessarily the accepted meanings to guide me here. I've read for myself for about seven or so years give or take but still prefer to just use for personal reasons.

The sad thing to me is the vast richness of symbolism in the Rider Waite deck that is rejected by newer generations. The Ultimate Guide to the Riser-Waite Tarot is and excellent and short book.

I used Rider Waite cause it's what most book suggested and what most book will based on and it have serve me well for many year.

I forget which book i read that say intuitive reading is better than just read from book, so in the beginning i have already done that, never look at book, only when i was really confused than i will look for guidance. But usually the book will just confused me more so i just keep pushing myself intuitively.

I usually dont read for myself unless its ask for guidance from my spirit guide. I dont like to read for my future. I rather what to know how to solve my current problem than look for future one.

So, I have done tarot reading for five year already, a lot of up and down and i dont think this is long enough. I am also taking client right now. So i guess i know what im doing.

My suggestion to you is, most book is correct but better put your own thought in your own card, meditate with them really work with me, ill look at the card and think, what dose they look like, what are they trying to tell me?

I have some card meaning for me that are totally different than what most book say but they worl for me, cause i know in what situation they meant what.

So another things is, just continue using it like everyday if you want, and trust your intuition, they are almost always right.

This is very long, cause i really love tarot. Hope you will make a good used to it.
