I bought this book on a whim at my local book store.

I saw the cover, saw it mentioned Magic, Enchantment, History, and Manuscripts and I was sold.

If you're interested in the history of western esotericism, this is a wonderful book to get you through the medieval and Renaissance periods with more context by examining the manuscripts made at those times.

For me right now its a wonderful resource on books that I should have in my library as someone interested I'm specifically the medieval and late Roman context for magic. Its first chapter on Astrology in the Carolingian Empire (or Holy Roman Empire if you prefer) is seemingly well researched though I'm nearly 6 years from the last time I touched scholarship on the Charlemagne.

Its very safe in the arguments its trying to make and a greater primer text if you want to work on something deeper.
