Hi All. I was wondering if any of you have experience with genii or this book, The Nuctemeron of Apollonius of Tyana. I read a summary of it here:

. I found the article because I was researching Nitika, one of the Genii of the 12 hours. Some of the discriptions of the site about the 12 hours resonates with info I've learned over the years about sacred geometry and some of Nikola Tesla's writings. The article looks like good info and I have heard genii are powerful in bringing about results, but I don't know where to go from here. In short, has anyone had success with any of the genii or have more resources related to them and related to working with them? I would like to try to work with genii, but I haven't found any source that lays out ways to do this.
Cheers

I don't have any experience or knowledge myself, but I'm sure somebody on here does.

I find the Nuctemeron fascinating.

Nitika is the only one I've worked with. I had hit-or-miss success with NAP, tried Brand's Magickal Cashbook once and it didn't work. I might try it again eventually. IIRC some of the other spirits associated with the Nuctemeron are also in NAP.

S. Connolly's book The Nuctemeron Gates is meant to provide initiation into the system via certain spirits of the system which she claims act as gatekeepers to the entire system. I've read it, but I haven't worked it, because it takes a lot of time and space.

Interestingly, Frater Acher once stated on his blog - I can't find the post now or I'd link to it - that he had never found a list of the spirits in the Nuctemeron in an older source than the spirit list in Eliphas Levi's book Transcendental Magic. He asked if anyone else had, but the answer seems to have been silence. So it appears that the initial derivation of the Genii of the Hours for the Nuctemeron may have been the original work of Levi.

Then we get into the whole issue of what the Genii of the Hours really are. Levi states they are neither angels nor demons, but "personified virtues". That kind of sounds like an angel to me, and I guess it did to Gustav Davidson too, because he included them in his book A Dictionary of Angels. Also, the term "genius spirit" was often used as a synonym for angels in older European grimoires, including by Levi's contemporary Lazare Lenain.

The author of the Nuctemeron was Apollonius of Tyana, who was a Greek Neopythagorean known for being a miracle worker. He traveled the ancient world, from Saharan Africa to India (I always wondered why Nitika appeared Indian to me). He was eventually exectued by the Romans on the charge of using magic to conspire against the Empire - imagine having to defend yourself from that charge. The fact that Appolonius was a Greek Neopythagorean has always made me wonder why Brand's Hebrew sigil works, but then we get into the mysteries of aspects of spirits and sigils as encoding intent and all that.

As a disclaimer, I'll add that I'm not a true expert on the life of Apollonius, I just poked around on the internet a bit back when I discovered the Nuctemeron. Still, he's a fascinating character.

Oh wow, thanks!

Well, if Levi really derived the spirits, then I guess using Hebrew makes sense, and GGC used Hebrew with them in NAP.
