Is it possible to create or possess a pocket universe to use as a training ground for Chaos Magic? I don’t know, and if it is possible, how can I do it?

The kind of magic you are talking about is incredibly advanced. If you are willing to put in the work you could get there, but it will likely take a couple lifetimes where you dedicated to magical progression and be at a point where you can carry your current memories over to your new body. Modern Western life does not lend itself to the training needed.

Lots of people use a created area in the mental or astral planes, and it is a skill you will need to develop anyway to get to your end goal so you can use it as practice.

The manipulation of things that are already there is easier that the fabrication of anything. Adjusting of denser physical space into a pocket universe would require a significant amount of power and knowledge that would be both hard to obtain and likely the knowledge would be very guarded by either actual traditions or just time. If I had any guess as to the location of that knowledge remaining today, I would look into the ancient Daoist magical traditions, which has its own challenges of course. but anyone who would be able to create a physical pocket reality will be able to overcome them, it's good motivation.

Regardless, you have to start at the bottom of the mountain to reach the top. You should figure out which system you want to master and start daily training.

I will give you a warning though. There is a lot of self-delusion in the magical community. Judge your system but the results you are able to produce with it.

The idea is to dedicate your altar/temple as a ritual space where you can seperate yourself from the rest of the universe for the duration of your practice. This is the only sense in which you are in a 'pocket universe'.

This is the pocket universe. You'll take what you learn here out of this world when you die.
Like really, think about it, what are you asking for here? I assume your understanding of materialist science is sufficient you grasp that your experience of reality is a simulation produced by your consciousness/brain. So what would a pocket universe even be? A simulation within a simulation? That's already where you're at, something caused all these consciousnesses to arise (a "simulation" or "matrix" containing all the minds), and each consciousness simulates reality at the same time. A pocket universe like you're describing would be a simulation, within a simulation... Of a simulation.
I'd suggest trying to go up a level instead of down another level. Try to separate from the brain-simulation and tap into the originating simulation, rather than trying to hold the whole universe in your mind, try to pour your mind out into the universe. In practice, this looks like cultivating empathy, which eventually becomes a kind of intuitive telepathy. I wish I could give you examples, but it's a million small examples of a flow state, not some big dramatic examples that make you point and say "Ah-ha!".

I guess the most important thing to stress here is: This universe is lower-stakes than it seems. It doesn't feel like a "training ground" because you've experienced consequences here, but outside of this material mesh, none of the consequences last. You could lose all your limbs in this lifetime and it will have no lasting repercussions after you die.

In conclusion, the takeaway for you to achieve your goals is: Let go of your fear of failure, or fear of the consequences of failure. Presumably, you're thinking in dichotomies: "I do it right and it works, or I do it wrong and it backfires". But really, the possibilities are more like "it works, it works a bit, it backfires, or, nothing happens" and even in the worst case scenario of "it backfires", there's something else you can do to mitigate that. So instead of debating if you should draw a sigil [for example], what it should look like, hemming and hawing over details and intent, etc. Just do it! Close counts in majiq, and intention overrides knowledge, and that means your gut-intention is more important than your "phrased intention" (that is, the intention you'd convey if asked to describe the intention to someone else; by the time it's filtered into words for you to express to me, it's different from the intention you actually had, does that grok?). A great piece of life advice is that you grow more from failure than from success, and if you make no attempt, you get no growth. So again: This is the simulation! It's okay to take risks, or try new things! Have a fantastic day or night, wherever you are!

Addendum: There is the "mind palace"/"crystal castle"/"memory palace" method, also known as the "method of loci", where you practice visualizing things in a recurring structure in your mind until it becomes familiar enough you can use it to look up information. This can be useful for storing important information from books, for example, but I don't really feel like it's what you're asking for. A place to practice Chaos Magick implies some level of limited consequence, because Chaos Magick is essentially cause and effect with a hidden mechanism of action, and in the mind palace, the rules are pretty much whatever you make them, so it won't teach you "real world chaos magick". Arguably the method of loci falls under chaos magick though, most (all?) advanced practitioners use it to some degree or another.
