I have been doing the practice of staring at a wall for as long as possible (i am aware its usually a candle but the wall works better in my opinion) is it normal for things to begin turninh completely black? For example, i had a tv on at the side of my vision with no noise and as my focus intensified it very suddenly looked as if it had turned off but when i looked at it it was still on.

For more context i had been attempting at least 15 minutes of this a day during my 3 day vow of silence which ended not too long ago.

Sounds normal to me. As in every meditation the point is to focus of the mind and detachment of the body. When I meditate with music, when i get deep, I stop hearing it and enter the silence, different layer of reality where that music doesn't exist. With eyes open it's the same. I think I've experienced it few times too when meditating with open eyes. You move your attention elsewhere and the input from your eyes no longer reaches your mind that now looks through other senses, spiritual eyes, if that makes sense. At least that is what I think basing on what I experienced.

Thank you. I have done lots of closed eyed meditation so i am still getting used to open eyed.

I do have one question. What should i do when my vision full blacks out into the void? I would like some tips before progressing further. Because i have always been careful not to go too far for me to handle in every practice. I must acclimate to the intensity.

I won't answer that question because I cannot. I think it is a wrong question. Right question, I believe, is what is it that you seek to achieve with this meditation. You are obviously getting somewhere. The question is then, is it what you are going forward with the meditation or is it getting you somewhere else entirely?

There are meditations that I use only for breath focus, the goal being me hardcore focusing on breath and nothing else. Other time I focus on getting into state where I do not feel body, practically causing me to get out of body. When I get there, the goal is done and I can consider how it went and where to go further or if I want to go further.

Hope it helps.

No worries, it is normal, you will also see things fade to white or disappear for awhile, just readjust your eyesight if you wan to continue the focal mediation and that's it.

As for your closed eye meditation. Have you seen the color yet? The one that appears in your field of vision and disappears at the center?
