Understanding early tomes and grimoires

One thing I find, is that past all the required salutations to heads of state, the language used for one thing, luckily modern interpretations solve this.
Many early magus' were actually highly educated, therefore to try to understand their mind is a tad difficult for me. A lot goes over my head, and I have ignored on the past what I considered were unimportant details such as stones and herbs.
Even back to Egypt and before, back to Melchezidek even, all magi were highly educated. It is therefore no surprise to me to see figures such as Agrippa or Barrett holding several doctorates.
