Using spirits in magic

When you use spirits in spells or otherwise, do you hear, see, or feel them or perceive them in any other way? Or do you talk to them, use their sigil or something else, and hope that they do some work, without any direct communication from their end?

I usually feel them first like a heavy presence, pressure on my chest, the room suddenly feels charged. But I also see things quite often: shadows, quick movements in the corner of my eye, flashes of light or clearer forms when i´m deep in trance. Sometimes words or short phrases pop into my head that don’t feel like my own. It’s not like a full conversation, but there is real communication.
