After many years spent dismissing it as archaic and deluded claptrap, I’ve suddenly found myself having a reversal of opinion and becoming deeply fascinated by theurgy and the concept of the Great Work.

As a result, I’m dissolving the antipathy I have felt toward the concept of an HGA as an emanation of the divine, having previously twisted it into an atheist Chaos magic paradigm.

I’m in no rush, much of the insights I’ve received over the past 6 months have been injunctions to slow down and build foundational practices, to display devotion and dedication in my daily life and allow it to come to me rather than blast my will about willy-nilly in an attempt to conjure it into being.

Conversely, I also don’t feel the need to go through a lengthy and meticulous process like the Abramelin rites. I agree with the nature of the process - dedication, purification and readying the self to foster a genuine bond, but I’m waiting to receive further insights as they arrive for how to proceed. I’m currently including devotional prayer with my morning offerings and attempting to “clean myself up” spiritually.

Recently I attempted to use the tarot to gain knowledge of the name and nature of my HGA and could use some second opinions as it’s a system I’m none too familiar with.

My initial question was simply to ask whether tarot was an appropriate method for me to use. While shuffling, The Star card “jumped” out the pack and the three cards I drew were three aces- wands, cups (inverted) and swords. I took this as a very strong affirmation, although as often happens I was perplexed by the inverted card.

The ace of wands has been popping up frequently in my further readings.

In another session I asked for specific knowledge of my HGA. The cards I drew were

Ace of wands : where I am on my spiritual path

The Tower (inverted) : the nature of my HGA

Page of Swords : what my HGA is trying to communicate at this moment

I was specifically asking how I can strengthen my prayers and meditation practice. A letter, a name, a number, an image - something to focus on.

I’m not particularly daunted by the Tower, I’m definitely in the process of dismantling my atheistic edifice and constructing the House Of God in my soul.

My question is: can someone with wider knowledge confirm my readings that this is a positive affirmation and maybe add some depth of understanding by adding associations I’m unaware of? Should I use the Page Of Swords as an object of focus, or is this only the messenger? What is the significance of the Ace of Wands?

You are correct in that you do not need to perform the Abremalin for K&C. Depending on what threshold youre at in your practice the ritual for contact with it can be done within a night. That ritual, though, is going to be highly personal and revealed to you by the HGA itself through synchronicity and intuition.

When you are dividing MOST of the time that is your HGA. Your HGA is ALWAYS talking to you we're just filtered from it due to reincarnation bs that isn't quite clear. It is the gut instinct, what is loud and speaking to you through tarot or pendulums (unless you've established a connection with a different spirit during your divination session) and it wants you to hear it and contact it. Rituals like the Abremalin or Liber Samekh are there to brute force strip away that filter, however the classical sources all state that your method of contact with your HGA (personal daimon/genius) is going to be handed to you by the HGA itself and will be personal to you.

It sounds to me like your HGA has established its time and you're ready for the contact, keep talking to it and extracting the correct method from it. It will tell you how to get ahold of it.

Thank you for your response and helpful advice, makes total sense. It does feel more like tuning myself into something that’s always been present but I haven’t been able to lock into the frequency.

Yeah, I’ve been looking into the Liber Samekh/Headless Rite as well. I’m going to do it soon I feel, to knock loose a bit more of that “filter” as you say. Previously I would have charged on in and already done it by now, and probably got discouraged when the results didn’t manifest instantly. That’s what im trying to avoid.

I also hadn’t noticed the recommended reading list before and have just glanced through a pdf Josephine McCarthy’s “Tarot Skills for the 21st Century”; a lot of my questions about specific tarot technique seem to be answered there. Will definitely be buying the physical book and trying some of the spreads I’ve seen.
