. To do our will.
I would say “to do my will” for the original “what are we doing here?” Question I believe was directed at each individual, rather than any sort of collective spirit-of-group … I’m not so with the the whole “our” thing when it comes to “will” — I can speak for myself . But I understand what you meant.

Thank you for clarifying my words. I have always been rather bad with them.

@Ohana only when you actually go down your journey you would find out the answers to your questions. Being a God will never be about satisfying some lower material desires. You will literally not even have a body if you decide to go down that Path. Your "body" would be an Universe, your dream would be a reality, your Soul will command an entire Universe. What brighter creation than this one? Your Soul only knows the answer of what do you really wish to go through in order to achieve your final objective. It always knew. The matter is you need to do the work of uncovering it. It has always been your duty and challenge to mine your Soul for the information you need and the journey you have been on-with all its obstacles and shortcuts-is there to prepare your Soul for this ultimate question. I will disappear tomorrow, your luck will change, you will go through yet another transformation but the essence of this question I'm bringing you about here and now-What is your Soul's ultimate choice will be with you till you exist or are in this Universe. It may not come to the surface tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or a year from now, or may be two year, or may be again till the end of this lifetime...but, eventually, it will and then you will have to weight in the suffering you know, which will be placed as the price for living, and the creation you can see on a scale for you to choose-which one do you prefer and which one weights in heavier for you. Of that I'm certain. And the choice would be all yours. And that choice will mark your Soul forever!
I think I have mined my soul for an answer but I think I would rather not be that.

I feel as if I have barely gotten to live. I want to live and be with the lowly material plane. I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Despite all the suffering nothing beats eating a sandwich in my book. I have barely gotten the chance to live and I would prefer to be here.

Not up or below or side. Right here. I want to live. I like living.

what reason do we have for being?
Depends on who you ask.

If you ask Camus, you'd get something about finding happiness in what you do in order to starve off the ultimate absurdity of existence.

Ask a Christian and they'd tell you it is to serve God and do His will in gratitude for His free gift of salvation.

Ultimately, we're not here for anything. We are part of the process of reality doing it's thing, and reality cannot possibly be for anything other than itself. That said, since we are here, and we have to make choices about what we are going to do, there are some general guidelines in how to apply ourselves. These are things that will lead to greater long-term happiness for yourself and those you care about, which is really what we want. First, overcome the illusion of separation. Recognize yourself as an embodiment of the great spirit that is already whole and complete. Deeply internalize that recognition and let it transform your relationship to your life. Second, cultivate positive emotional states in yourself and seek to share these with others. Third, increase your personal power, not for its own sake but so that you can more effectively make the sphere around you flourish with life, love, and kindness.

what reason do we have for being?
Fascinating question!!!!

The reason....
Maybe ... "finding ourselves" ...

And each time we fail, we reincarnated again to fulfil the purpose we left in our previous life ...

Just like a game, we level up and reaches the final level and become what we want ...

Or or or maybe ... we are here to be tested by God ...

Or or or or maybe ... we are in a waiting room of a running train and travelling towards our destination of higher self !!!

what reason do we have for being?
TL;DR, neoplatonism and hermeticism are pretty based

Long version:

Okay, this is what I believe...

We are here to count, rank, and name, everything that exists as either a pattern, a symbol, a value, or an object.

That's it. That's what I believe. In plain and simple terms.

To explain a bit, if something "exists" then "it" can be measured. To measure "it" is to count, rank, or name "it" somehow (ironically, as I have already done here for example, by naming the "something" to which I have been referring so far as "it" - and now I've just referred to "it", also, as "something" here in this example.) "It" can be a pattern, in which case "it" is something like an "archetype" or a "god". "It" can also be a symbol, some kind of idea or image that seems to represent something, like a thought, a word, or a gesture, or a picture, or whatever. "It" can be a value, in which case it is a feeling, like, an appreciation for something, or a disdain for something, repulsion from "it". Or "it" can literally just be an object, plain as day, a hard pebble in my hand, a cloud in the sky, the wetness of the rain, some manifest physical event or property.

Whatever "it" is, we must name "it", and we must count "it" (that is to say, before we can even name "it", we must account for "it", we must count "it"), and we must also rank "it" (which is to say, "it" must be placed into some sort of order or hierarchy that is governed by some fixed set of rules). Furthermore, you cannot have one without the others. Names have no meaning if they cannot quantify something or qualify something - that is literally what names do. Words are names, and words are used to quantify things by declaring them, or to qualify things by describing them, you see? And you cannot count something that cannot be named or cannot be ranked. And you cannot rank something that cannot be named or counted, and so forth. It is because we are discussing three fundamental metaphysical ideas here, which are at the very basis of neoplatonim.

Cardinals. Ordinals. Nominals.

These are the three "triplicities" or "modalities" as they are also called - cardinal, fixed, mutable. Cardinal "mode" is to take account of something existing or bring something into being, fixed "mode" is ordering, structuring, preserving, ranking, and so forth, everything that has been accounted for or brought into existence already, and mutable "mode" is naming, giving meaning to, labeling, representing, arranging, everything that has been brought into being and given a structure already, so that it has something to work with already that it rearranges and "mutates" (mutable), or to put it another way "nominates" (nominal).

So, applying these then to the four elements, you get a rather air-tight (pun intended) ontological and teleological framework, if you're looking for something like that.

To do what you want. But that takes a lot of thinking and experience to figure out what you truly want.

what reason do we have for being?
Vessels for the spirit to experience duality, we see how well we can act in accordance to our highest will in a realm that feels empty compared to the other side, some say to raise inner understanding on the planet to remedy the fall of Sophia. Some say to find purpose and act out our purpose with our highest will so we fill the kenoma (this plane of emptieness) with that which is like the Pleroma but our soul works from the Ogdoad so it is a hard thing to accept.
Mostly I think we are here as part of an alchemical process, it's a natural progression of life if you don't fight it.

Limitation forces us to exceed the sum of our parts.
Example: it's how the first Pokemon games managed to fit on some shitty Gameboy chips.

On topic, more serious: it literally is what you make of it; you probably have fascinations and interests. Swim in them. Breathe them. Become them. Surround yourself with reminders of it - or things that stimulate/enable you to persue them more. Symbolism has its effects, so remove everything, where possible, that which opposes your fascinations and interests.

Why? It's one of few ways to genuinely feel "good".
Why not? Once you know this, it'll always be an option, and you'll be stewing in hypocricy and have a continuous unchecked todo item in your head. That unchecked todo item in your head is manifesting you(rself).

I believe your fascinations and interests, how solid, objective, subjective, or fleeting they are, are genuinely Meant for You. This example may help explain:

A grandma (87y/o) falls.
If it happens enfront of you, you will be triggered to assist.
If it happens enfront of you, and you're a baby, you won't be triggered to assist.
If it happens around the corner, or in another country, or while you're asleep, you won't be triggered to assist.
If you're 117 years old yourself, you're probably not triggered to assist.

To summarize: if you See It, It's Meant For You (even if it is for that one time, the moment, or whenever it occurs, or permanent - you'll know, it'll tell you with the same "affinity" you'll feel (or the opposite of it)

Now this example uses a very practical case of which I presume that it is sort of universal (don't let fallen elderlies lie on the ground). But it does put the finger on it nicely: the fallen grandma is meant for you to interact with, or not.

Anyway.
End of rant kbai :)

Very fascinating question, from my speculation reasons are:
A- objective and physical: we are a bunch of disposable slaves, a condition we have been subjected to for probably many centuries.
B- subjective and metaphysical: whatever you wanna believe in and live for, be it love or evil, you can create your reason and reality.

Are those introductory or conclusive statements of (some of) your speculation?

I said it already at the beginning of this thread and I will repeat it again, but this time in a short form-we are here to make one choice and one choice only (the only choice that actually matters) and it is to choose to become a Creator and suffer in the process, or, to abhor any and all suffering and decide to end it all by going back to our own Creator. That is it! All of it! Choose wisely.

Peace and Love: I firmly believe that we were created to populate the earth, spread justice throughout it, eradicate evil, and prevent it—and to worship the One Merciful God who created us to worship and love Him. Let us see together that without the pursuit of justice and fairness, the human race would come to an end, because if we allowed every criminal to do as they please, there would be a clear justification for someone to kill you and rob you of your possessions and your life. For this reason, too, without mercy, what is the point of hospitals? Should every patient just die? Therefore, the universe and humanity were created so that justice and mercy might prevail, and the God who created all this is certainly merciful.
As for why we are here on this forum, it is so that we may share knowledge and experiences, support the vulnerable, extend a helping hand to those who have been oppressed, lift the yoke of injustice from the weak, and light the way for future generations—so that we may be worthy of being human.

In this 3D timeline I'm currently thinking we are here to forge ahead with galactic conquest whereby we will hunt down and destroy whoever flung the asteroid at Mother Earth that killed the dinosaurs. It's why we need AI.

But if you distill it down to Being (as in "Existence exists, and consciousness is the faculty of perceiving it" - Ayn Rand), then our purpose is to create drama.
Because fizzling atoms without conscious perceivers are kind of boring. Just ask old Cornelius here:

what reason do we have for being?
This question, because of the subjective nature of our personal experiences, has a few conditions under which it must be asked:

The most overriding condition being that, "experiences" aside, we have no way of confirming to satisfaction that our personal philosophy or faith are correct.

Another condition is that we cannot verify the reality or the independence of "Will". I see some people answering that we exist to execute our will. Other people saying that we exist in a sort of esoteric trap in which we function as "slaves" or "processors", transformers of energy that function like chemicals in a reaction.

I don't see these two viewpoints as being mutually exclusive. I think from 10'000 feet up you could view individual human wills as just an extension of their natural functions. People pretty much use their will to pursue their desires in a predictable way.

I think the question becomes interesting when the subject of placing your will under the influence of another, perhaps higher, power arises. I see the placement of will into the hands of a higher power as a possible escape route from living a life of chasing after and satisfying my desires. If that sounds like something worth escaping is up to you.

Getting what you want is very enjoyable but it loses its sheen after repeat performances and sometimes, life will crash in through your ceiling and show you that in reality you and I are quite small.

Sethian Gnostics might say that we were sent here to retrieve a pearl of great value from a crowded and dirty world, but being overcome with sense perceptions and cacophony we forgot where we came from and what we came here to do. They would say that it is our job to remember ourselves and find the pearl amidst the dross.

^ beautifully said.

When I spoke about taking oneself out from under the influence of personal desire and putting oneself under the influence of a higher power, this is how I imagine it would look. If we could really act from a place of brotherly love instead of from ourselves, we would be bring the divine down to earth, as we were meant to do.
