Currently, mostly wildflower clippings once the sun has scorched them! I'm quite partial to flower magic in this phase of my life, which I never really felt drawn to before now. I'm known to dart across 4 lanes of traffic and scare my passengers when I see some nice flowers on the side of the highway
I've always been a little collector as far back as I can remember. Bones and acorns were my personal favorites. I grew up in a spiritual house but was never given explicit instruction on practices. I just made effigies and mobiles in the middle of the woods as any creepy 7 year old does...
I have a 'crystal garden' , like a rock garden but with heaps of treasurers in it . In the 'good old days' before these were very pop and expensive , we would go to 'Crystan Castle' and buy 'rejects' by the bucket load ! Ha , not a chance today .
They were also used in sculpture ; in our large outdoor circle; the four elemental altars ; two were built of rock and crystal ( water was blue and green crystals and river stones , fire was red and yellow crystals and volcanic rock { earth was one huge flat topped boulder and air .... was made of air } )
Some of the favorite ones sit inside , on shelf, window sill , a few in the wet room / bath house ( some great samples in there , I spent a bit too much )
* If you look at one of my favorites ; it is a river stone with a piece of pumice sticking out of it . It has a story ;
A volcano spat out 'lava foam' that hardened into rock sponge ( a lot harder than pumice ) - scoria : it got broken down and ended up in a river where it became rounded and a 'river stone' . Then the river turned into a glacier and picked up the stone : then the glacier broke up and and an ice berg containing the stone floated around: the ice melted and dropped the stone to the bottom of the sea into mud : eventually the mud turns to mudstone containing the mud; uplift ( subduction fault ) and erosion brings the mudstone to the surface : at the floor of the fault a river forms: the stones break up and get eroded : as one of the does, it cracks and reveals the original river stone encased within the next generation river stone .
- sorry if that was boring , I am a bit of a geonut - every stone has a story

Oh ... another use ; See that reniform hematite above , I have a great sample of that , it is a pink - silver , soft of pale soft blue . I use it as a prop in a story . I have various kids stories for various ages ; the young ones , especially at bedtime, get the Moon goddess story . Its about an astral visualized trip to the Moon , a Moon cave and inside is throne room and everything is made of ' pink blue silver cloud shaped rocks' . In the story, the Moon Goddess gives the visiting child a piece of her special rock ' to help me look after you while you are asleep and to give you nice dreams ' . At the end of the story I pull out a piece of the 'moon rock' and show it to them and leave it beside their bed .
I also collect bones more than anything else.
Bones, Antlers, Rocks, and Herbs.
I use bones extensively in my practice, all of my tools have bone in them in some way. Rocks and antlers for making talismans or simple altar decoration. Herbs for oils or drying and burning.
I collect ...Everything I find useful. My grandparents used to joke that I always had a pocket full of rocks as a kid lol. So rocks/crystals, barks (especially from birch trees), leaves, roots, specimens, bones, the occasional fossil when I come across one, and rainwater depending on the transits. I live central to several state parks and nature preserves so I come across a lot just walking around and enjoying my area. I recently heard about a creek with garnet deposits but I haven't had the time to check it out yet but I will soon bc I'm going to collect mayapples if the wildlife have left any lol.
I love to take stones (our local sandstone to be specific, I love the layers and rusty patterns look due to high iron content) and tree bark with me. You can also find fossils around where I live relatively easy so I always loved to hunt for those as a kid and occasionally still do.
Generally I too am a magpie, I like to pick up stones or pine cones anything that I am drawn to. I have had instances where I have picked up a stone or something and felt it was not right to remove it. So I just replaced it as I did not want to cause a problem.
Stones and rocks. I use them for spiritual bath, burning of candles ie as a stand and put in prayer water on the altar. It's like a connection to rock of ages. Something l stand upon without been afraid.

That is part of the indigenous lore here . Not to take things from the environment .... but I know they too take things , so I am supposing it is not just 'wanton ' sampling and greed and the exceptions seem to be 'special' or 'magical ' needs .
Eg. one time I fessed up in front of some indigenous that I 'got this amazing black crystal from the top of ........ ( leave the name out to stop Fossicking ) ... ' Dastardly looks until I explained the strange and unusual events around it , especially the part where ; I even had to lie down with my face on the ground and stick my arm all the way into the little crack , up to my shoulder , I still didnt know why but I was so strongly drawn to that hole , I didnt know if what was in there , maybe a black snake or treasure , then I felt a rock and pulled it out and it was this black crystal rod . And the fact that two other people had the same experience there over a couple of years - one was a woman that put her hand in palm up and something fell into her palm so she snatched it . At the end , the looks of disdain had changed , the elder nodded and said '' Well, it looks like you were meant to have it .''
I think the thing is , nature will offer you things , and yes , magpies do collect things to , but when dealing with nature ; moderation respect and no greed , I feel is a good balance for accepting any gifts given .
