What is a "current" ?

Hi all,

What is a current ? what happens if you are part of a current and use the sigils and rituals of a specific current? would you attune yourself - or soul, to the current?
What if you work two currents simultaneously? would they conflict?

I understand that a current is a magickal lodge, religous cult, a witchcraft covenant or any group thereof, however, energetically or astrally speaking, what happens when you work through a current or in a current?

Current, as used by most occultists, is essentially the spirit or mood of a particular group or tradition as demonstrated by the ideas, beliefs and practices of the day.

The '93 Current' for example is used to refer to the common opinions, beliefs and practices of Thelemites in general, but not to the rules & orthodoxy of any of the many Thelemic organizations and lodges.

Becoming part of a Current is largely a matter of choice - to use the example above, if you practice Thelemic magic, read a lot of Thelemic literature, and talk to/hang out with a lot of Thelemites, then yes, you will 'attune to the Current', if for no other reason than because people pick up on the common beliefs and behaviors of any group they are a member of, whether it is a formal group, or just a bunch of friends.

No it isn't. A Current does not require a formalized group of any kind - it just requires people with shared ideas, beliefs and practices, and while that may result in the creation of one or more groups with the Current, it doesn't require it, and the Current itself could still encompass people with no group affiliation.

What if you work two currents simultaneously? would they conflict?

That depends on how many opposing viewpoints each has - I'm not sure, for example, how anyone could combine the fundamentalist/conservative christian Current with one of the Satanic Currents, but plenty of people I know do manage to combine the bushcraft & conservationist Currents with various forms of Heathen and Pagan practice.

What I want talking about is more like serious and devotional currents, an example of this would be several "anti-cosmic currents"or the primal current of Hecate, or "kosmic gnosis" of David beth, such currents are governed by spirits and require pacts and devotion to the current and its spirits.

I personally noticed that regular invocation and possession from spirits of a specific current and its temple egregore, will change both your energy body and even your physiology and facial features. I am looking for people who have similar experiences to understand what I am experiencing.

Another thing I noticed is that spirits of a specific current would be more willing to assist a "serious devotee".
And I would like to avoid any astral backlash from working within two different currents, hence my question.

(Just note that I speak of Invidiual work within a current, and not group work or picking up people's beliefs and behaviours.)
