Hi,

I am new here. So, I would like to know what is difference between talisman and pentacle? To my understanding and search, pentacle seems a bit different than talisman. For example, pentacle contains sacred letters (Hebrew letters), numbers and geometry. It seems that aim to attract angel or demon (or, jinn)? For talisman, it seems that aim to attract the planet itself? Talisman paper or talisman metal, it seems to me, they design a picture of human or animal? Of course, it includes a sigils. Talisman and pentacle are required to use astrological time. I cannot create whatever I pleasure... Obviously. But, it seems to me, they are very similar, but just special effects? For example, Moon talisman can help you to find answer in dream or keeps you safe from dangers. The first pentacle of the Moon grants you to access to open doors. It allows a spirit to come easily. So, is my understanding correct?

Thank you,

Golden Saturn

Pantacles are talismans but they are used specifically for solomonic/grimoiric magic and the conjuration of spirits. A talisman is basically any object that causes magical effects though in its original medieval arabic context usually implied some type of astrological timing behind its creation. A talisman can be crafted without any interaction with spirits at all, purely through capturing a planetary moment in time. A pantacle implies spirits are involved and is a tool to get access to spirits. Though a talisman can fulfill this same function outside of solomonic/european grimoiric magic it'd just be called a talisman. And just for clarity, an amulet is a protective talisman.

Thank you for your time to explain. I have to check myself if I understand. As you mentioned that talisman causes magical effects. Like I am programmer and building a code and put it in old system to cause? Pentacle Is, like allowing me to call a spirit to come and fix my computer?

Interesting that you mentioned a talisman can be crafted without interaction with spirit. So, I just can bless my own stone without asking a spirit to bless my stone?

And, can I say pentacle is talisman since they are both same idea, but different purpose and goal?
