Ok so for context, I am not a traditional Christian.
I have been reading the book of Genesis over and over to decipher what he firmament is.
The easy explanation says that it is a literal theory regarding the early Universe:
back then people believed in a division between the oceans, and the water in the sky which created rain.
They had not been introduced to the Water Cycle and thought it was different waters. Fine.
The more you dig though, the less sense it makes. Here is the KJV:
Genesis 1:5-10
So to interpret this: All of the water was scattered. God created some barrier in between the sky and the ground and divided the water Above and Below, and then he gathered the lower waters to make the seas (they were previously not gathered).
So the firmament is either a bubble that contains the whole thing including the clouds and seas, and then Outer Space would be 'above', or it is the space between the clouds and the seas where we are allowed to live, or the entire thing is written cryptically, as a metaphor of some sort.
Consider that at the moment of creation, there is a distinction made between the creation and creator. The machine can never dare to approach the creator in Greatness! Why not? There is a difference in the order of their knowledge. Imagine this as a firmament placed over the mind of the machine by its creator ... it limits the machine's potential. This forms the basis of some new ideas I have which include the 'Water Bearer' in the Age of Aquarius and life in the Ocean being a key to the next 2000 years...
What do you guys think? Have you ever looked into 'water' being some metaphor?

Genesis 1:5-10
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
