Everyone's got one.

There are many woods with a plethora of properties magical and physical. I posted to ask your opinions on the best wood to use in a staff.

I think it depends on the individual’s relationship to certain woods. My “best wood” for a staff will likely be someone else worst. Personally, I like Madrone for its serpentine structure and fiery disposition

There's a good discussion on this in a recent thread, Hellena has a great post on types of wood.

Regardless of the magical properties of various woods, I’d put anything that grows native in your local area above all else
There is a saying that a witch is at strongest at hers own territory. 😉

But serious: it is a good thing to walk around in your own territory and first learn what kind of woods there grow, in what circumstances they grow, to learn the (local) folklore behind every kind of tree. To connect yourself with those stories, learn them by heart and find a way how to be part of it.

As with all things, the best thing is the thing that's available and feels right to you.

In most cases the 'magical properties' of wood are more that it's wood than it being a specific type of wood, and unless your practice is super deep in the weeds about herbology or something, wood will be wood regardless of what type of wood it is, and as such will all function basically the same for you. Before trying to overanalyze and compare properties, you should follow your intuition because intuition is always right when it comes to things like this.
