Where to put the Athame

Hello, good morning. Does anyone know where the athame should go within the space I’ve set aside for my objects (religious artifacts)? I don’t have room for an altar, but I’ve arranged the objects in a special corner. I’m unsure where to place the athame in this area, which is shared with non-religious items. Does it have to go in front of the religious objects, or can it be placed to the side? Or somewhere else entirely?

I didn't notice the Q&A section existed, sorry. If you could migrate the post to the Q&A section I would be grateful.

In the system of magic you're practicing, is the athame associated with an element? If so, which of the cardinal directions is that element assigned to?

For example, in the Victorian styles of high magic, the athame is associated with air, and air is assigned the direction of east. So, in those systems, an athame would go on the east side of the altar.

Yes, it would be an Athame associated with Air. Thank you for your answer. But can I put it on this shared area (there are bottles and jars)? I assume ideally the Athame would go on the East Side pointing East?

People's altars are very personal spaces. Your setup may need to vary from the ideal specs for practical reasons. So, it might not be ideal, but if you're okay with it, it should be fine.

Do the best you can and don't worry about it.

Thank you.

Sure thing!

In my experience, sincerity, intent, focus, and energy are the most important factors in magic. Put your heart into it and it's hard to go wrong.

That said, eventually, when the opportunity arises, you should probably bring your altar up to spec. But in the meantime, improvising as best you can should be enough to get you started.

in the cup :)

oh wait ... thats the wand .... is it ?

better check with your local coven :D

I use a phurba , it sits with my tingshaws ( 'magick bell ' ) and a gold and silver jeweled sting ray ( that opens up for a 'secret compartment ) on the shelf on top of my desk .

My 'magick daggers' are more practical * , I have a range of them ; they sit on my weapons rack up in the shed / training area
.

images

* of course some of them can be used ritually as well . I am reminded of this story ;

A young female witch is by herself at a remote beach , She draws a circle in the sand and starts a ritual. Some huys comes along and starts walking towards her . She motions 'go away ' , he keeps coming . She holds her hand up 'stop' he keeps coming . She has the circle protection - he steps over it ; ''Hi ! What are you up to . ''

'' Please leave me alone this is private ! ''

'' Oh come on now , dont be like that . '' Now she is starting to fear for her saftey, this guy seems weird . Fortunately some one else comes along the beach and he decides all of a sudden to listen to her and goes away . She quickly leaves while she can .

Someone else listening to her story asks ; '' Did you have your athame with you ?''

'' Yes .''

'' I would have pointed it at his face and said ' I said , leave me alone , I am armed and getting really pissed of with you ! ''

might I also suggest you place it where it seems magically appropriate but also 'close at hand ' .

Also , what is a wand but a staff or stick * , a sword is more obvious , a disc can be a shield ;)

* 'magick stick in action :) ... try from 6:30 .
