[Opinion] Why is so important to initiate with the tarot deck you using?

Could you explain a bit more about what you mean by "initiate with the tarot deck"? Do you mean cleanse a new deck before you use it the first time? Do you mean something like a special ritual that is performed before doing a tarot reading? Something else?

There are no formal “initiations” in tarot. Tarot is not a closed system, secret order, or institution that requires permission or ritual entry.

Sleep with your cards to gain a bond longer they are touching you the better the synergy of energy exchange if you treat them special & expose them to moon light you'll connect better.

I use to do tarot but now a days I just use my intuition & dreams to know things

I agree. I love Tarot, though I'm still fairly new to it. I'm not dismissing its magic - but I've found it an far more useful as a reflective tool. I have read up on the symbolism, meanings, interpretations, but mostly I look at the pictures and ask myself what they mean.

I haven't initiated my deck. I'm really anal about putting the cards back into order after using them, so they always require a damn good shuffle before a reading (maybe that's a form of initiation?). Otherwise they just sit in their battered box on the side in my toyroom (uh, I mean in my "study").

I swear I don’t know what my issue is with tarot, I’ve tried for YEARS to learn how to divine with them, tried different methods, studied, tried to just get intuitive impressions with the imagery, NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH. The first time I picked up a lenormand deck or cast runes, by the 2-3rd time I was reading them really well. Tarot basically says bugger off. Ive tried different decks too, and it hasn’t made any difference whatsoever. I think I have like 7 different decks at this point.

on the other hand, there seems to be a lot of use in them for just understanding concepts in life, astrology, magic in general even if you don’t really subscribe to the whole Kabbalistic view of the world. There seems to be a sort of ceremony in opening the box and unwrapping the plastic, and going through the cards in sequential order for the first time, it’s like reading a book for the first time, even if you love the book and resd it over and over until it becomes dog eared, that first time you read it can never be replicated.
