I was wondering why I see so much posts about win 10, Linux and Win 11. Win 11 is a security disaster. Specifically, it encrypt your HDD and if you screw up, you will never get your data out. ID of your device is stored in your Win account and accessible to many. AI will be screenshotting your screen for learning about you. (how anyone thinks that doing banking is safe under Ai screening it?) Win 10 will no longer get security updates...

Looks like win 10 will indeed be the last Windows...

You can get the extended updates thing. Gives another year. I just recently extended it on a toaster laptop, said +1 year. Doesn't cost anything, although it first says 1000 Microsoft points or 29,99$, there's some free third option.

Shockingly strange yes, taking images of everything. The AI takeover.

Yeah, AI disgusts me greatly. It is impressive thing, but the mount of energy and processing power it needs is so insanely high, that in no time AI industry will be the biggest source of pollution in the world.

Some people still use even Win XP. If some OS no longer gets official support it doesn't mean that it suddenly stops working. Security updates were meaningful only up to the very start of WinXP era. Later updates are very dubious and I suspect those "updates" actually be just another form of telemetry.

Just to note, I never ever used Google Play on my smartphone with it, and all auto-updates were turned off. Lately I had to use VPNs, so I had to watch the bandwidth, and oh my... Google Play devours bandwidth like mad... I had to totally block that application. Also on my old laptop (with Win10) I noticed that once internet connection is off, laptop works several times faster.

These big greedy companies like Google and Microsoft are certainly up to no good.

Thankfully, there are some pirates who make "clean" versions of newer Windows OS. Of course there is always risk to get some malware with it, but at least you will surely not get official malware from Microsoft. So that's another alternative in case someone doesn't want to go to Linux.

Yeah, I switched to Linux about a year ago. All the telemetry and other bloatware from Windows was eating up the lion's share of my computer's resources and it was just easier to deal with the switch. Honestly, there haven't been many issues, and I suspect many of the issues would've been present in some form or another regardless of OS.

I honestly hope Microsoft goes under and gives these other soulless tech giants something to think about. I've had enough of data centers, "AI", software as a "service", and every other scam these crooks are pushing on innocent people right now.

Win XP still has uses, though I would not use it for stuff like banking... unless it would have patches. US army still uses XP and pays Microsoft to keep XP updated... Damn, to get to the way to download those and run actual up to date XP in 64bit... that would be cool.

You can use ReviOS or AtlasOS to install Windows 11 to disable telemetry, automatically removes bloatware and optimize performance.
Where do I find more information about this? I am not good in computer things, so for me everything is like Chinese language.

The free option is if you sync your PC. I have just done this and have the security updates until next year.

Thanks folks!

These 2 are interesting, reading about them right now. Never heard about these.

The other free option that requires some points is quite easy too. I read you just need to login daily and do some bing searches, type in a few keywords, random quiz'es. At first I started collecting points and they came fast. I guess the 1K ms points or whatever could come in a week or something.

If you’re really worried, you could always run Windows inside

For network privacy, set up a

or use a software-based alternative like

Check out

And if you’re concerned about the new "AI Screenshot" (Recall) feature, it’s trivial to disable:

Run in Command Prompt (as Administrator): DISM /Online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:"Recall"

Linux Mint is a GREAT first stop for Windows users. It's easy to use, and simply works on most equipment. I've been using it for a couple years, and other than a couple minor things, it's great.

The only thing I've "lost" was Adobe products, and I have a Windows VM for the lighter use ones, and then GIMP is an open source version of PhotoShop that has been doing me right for more than a decade. Steam works just fine for the few titles I have on there. LibreOffice is an open source replacement for MS Office that also doesn't try to jack your data and track what you do and say.

We all need to get VERY serious about online privacy. MS, Google, Amazon, and Apple will be the first ones to give us all up when modern witch hunts come for us.

I'm now thinking about dual boot solution, using USB flash drive as hard disc for Linux, so I can keep Windows... I don't want to loose Adobe stuff...

security disaster is a different problem entirely. What microsoft has done is put ai in dev, fire 30% of devs and other staff as well (less for other staff). aws has done the same, firing 30% of devs.

The result is AI work not being checked. When using ai to generate code i still have to architect it and i still have to check each code generated by ai, so i dont see AI as being worthwhile or possible to replace devs.

Mac bro here, don't let my superiority cause any controversy.
Not a computer nerd but I built a PC with Win 10 for occasional games and use the Mac for all the day to day stuff. Logic Pro was the selling point at first but the MacOS Tahoe update is incredible in my mid wit consumer opinion.
No experience using any other OS so I really can't talk any shit other than I am very upset that Win 10 updates are kaput
