Tree Spirits and How to Communicate With Them

So I figured this would be something I could write that may be rather useful to people, as I've never seen enough written on the subject. I personally learned this on accident as a child, I guess as one of the big moments where natural talent ended up yielding something unexpectedly. Scared the crap outta me at first, but I eventually learned to do this at will.

Anyway, tree spirits (or Dryads, if you wanna get fancy about it) are, as you may have guessed, the spirits of trees. Just like how your body houses your soul, trees house a soul of their own. Every tree has one, and plants do as well. But since this is a beginner's article I'll just be focusing on trees, as I've personally found them easier to reach out to, as well as less prone to mischief/more likely to be cooperative with humans. I may write more later, if anybody wants me to.

So without further ado, here's how you reach out to them:

Step 1: Find a tree. If you have the luxury, the bigger and older the tree the better. But any will do, though you may want to be somewhere secluded for this if you're worried about people watching you.

Step 2: Connect with the tree. Look at it and if you can, put your hand flat against the trunk. Feel the pulse, the current of life underneath its bark. At this point, you may "hear" a faint voice in the form of mental dialogue. Usually it will be very clear, very distinctly a voice that is not your own, and you may feel it coming from the direction of the tree.

Step 3: Listen to what it has to say! A greeting? Is it asking anything? Keep your own mind totally open and blank, just take a minute to close your eyes and listen.

Step 4: Either following what the tree may have said to you or being what you want to say first, think about what you want to tell the tree spirit. Imagine this thought going in the direction of the tree, possibly trying to mimic how it talked to you. It's not so much a linear link, as radio signal.

Step 5: Once you think you got it right, listen for a response. If you were successful, great job! Rinse and repeat. Whenever you're done with the "conversation", say goodbye as you part ways.

And that's really all to it. Tree spirits are one of the easiest "beginner" types to try to deal with, as far as fae go. You always know where to find them. As long as you're courteous and respectful towards them and the environment you find them in, they tend to be rather friendly, and have lots of things they can teach you. Often they can be like the grandparents you never had, and great listeners! Of course, this is a broad generalization, and varies by the individual as well as species/age of the tree. If you find you're not getting good results immediately, try again later. Giving some sort of offering in the form of water, fertilizer or picking up any trash around the tree may also help to get their attention/improve your relationship with them.

Thanks for sharing, Scotty. I've never been the nature type but this is undoubtedly going to be useful for those who are!

What’s your estimate on how long it would take for the Dryad to communicate with a noobie?
Honestly, that's something I've never thought of before. And I can't say I could give you a solid answer, because my personal experience was far from the norm. (As said in the article, I randomly discovered I could hear them as a child and figured things out right away) This particular type of spirit is also something I've very rarely seen get written about, so no clue about many other peoples' experience learning.

I'd assume that the more prior experience someone has with other things in the occult, though, even if it's basic skills like meditation, the better. And some may pick up on it better than others, it'd entirely depend on the person and their situation. But don't let lack of results early on discourage you; because everybody's different, there's absolutely no shame in this taking days, weeks, months or even years to achieve.

Depends a lot on you and the dryad I would guess.

I think the greatest disappointments in the occult are when you try to explain or expect things from the occult scientifically. If it were a science it wouldn't be the occult. The reason why it's the occult is because so much is unknown, maybe even unknowable. There's so many variable, some of which we don't even know are variables. That's why sometimes when you follow instructions that worked for someone else even to a tee, it may not work for you. It's all about you fumbling, grasping and reaching in a dark room to find out what works for you, at least IMO.

If you live in the city, and drive to the woods every weekend and touch a tree, ask a question, and then drive back to the city you may never hear the woods talk back to you. Scotty lives, breathes, eats and shits nature. He/she would therefore obviously find it easier to communicate with nature spirits.

So imma be totally honest here and say that the bulk of my experience with dryads was actually when I was still living in the city. I was just lucky to live in an apartment complex with lots of courtyards. I made my own opportunities from there.

I’ve been able to do that since I was a child too. Never knew of anyone else who could; however, my Mom swore there were others.

It didn’t bother me when I discovered this as I was a toddler but I’ve found that only certain areas are the tree spirits “chatty.” Many times, I’ve found they want to be left alone (or somehow I’ve pissed them off and have no idea what I did).

When I was in the Philippines, the ones in cities were very unhappy and wanted to be left alone; however, the further out they were, the happier they were, which makes sense if you think about it.

I’ve since been trying to be more eco-friendly which might be why the trees in my backyard seem to actually be warm and inviting to me. I enjoy being in my backyard. Haven’t bothered in a long time to try to talk to trees. Might try that tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation.

That's really cool! I'd never known of somebody before who could naturally do it, either. Hell, even articles about communicating with them on purpose seem to be few and far between. Which is why I wrote this in the first place.

It's awesome that you were able to tell your mom about it, though. I still haven't told my family at all, because I'm afraid they'll think I'm crazy or something.

But yeah, I definitely have experienced areas where trees are chattier than elsewhere. There's even this thickety woodland area near my house where all the plant spirits in general are...a bit mistrusting of humans. A little hostile at first, even, but they've opened up to me as I've sought to take care of the area in recent years. Clean up the litter I see there, throw out some native plant seeds or fertilizer/other offerings, etc. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the apprehension in that area, is because it's sort of become the big hangout for kids partying and people doing drugs in the middle of the night. Then they leave their beer cans and shit everywhere, generally a lot of disrespect for those woods. It's sad.

An earlier generation also talked to the trees and plants and insects

" One of the most seminal books on conservation, natural methods and communication with plant life to grow abundant crops and develop communication with the plant energies. It is a gentle, loving, look at humans working with the plant devas and nature spirits to produce beautiful, healthy , abundant plants in the garden, cooperation with spiritual energies, and use natural methods for the benefit of the plants and the earth, as well as humans."

My family has abilities naturally. Ghosts seem to love my sister and seem to highly respect her, I think.

My brother is an empath—Recieving and sending—and able to commune with ghosts.

My Mom could see people’s radiance, like people’s aura but no color, just energy, I think it is, and can feel ghosts but not actually communicate. She just knew they’re there.

I kind of have a little of all of it plus the tree thing— I would get images and emotions whenever I would touch trees that do wanna “talk” — but I could also sync with people and get surface images, sometimes. It’s easier with friends. I can do strangers but trying to get the right frequency is hard since I don’t really know how to read them yet. Never done plants or insects though.

Trees don't like it when you cut off healthy branches and when you cut them down and kill them. (and yeah, I've seen the face on trees, when it first started happening, I was like wtf is wrong with me now.)

Faces on the trees? Now that's something I've never heard of before. Do you see them as humanoid type faces, or what?

Obviously no living thing likes perfectly good parts of its body cut off, though, even if it's something that can grow them back. However, with the basic concept of pruning to encourage healthy growth in the long run, it seems there is an exception to be made there. Many trees, shrubs and tender plants need to be cut back at some point, however little, in order to not grow languid and suffer in time. The spirits of these plants know this, and often appreciate it. That is, if done right and with its best interest in mind.

If you're worried about that, what I've always done is find the branches that have already fallen off the tree naturally, and if all else fails ask the trees for permission. Never take more than what you need, and if possible try to take from branches that appear to be struggling. With plants, even if part of the plant is dead, the plant will keep sending energy to it at all times. When you do it this way you are doing them a favor, and letting them continue to grow optimally.

When a branch falls on the forest floor, I consider it to be a gift freely given to anyone who may need it.

Definitely agreed. If it's for a genuine need in my experience plant spirits are the most generous and forgiving. Just ask and see, they will take care of you always.

what a joy to see people so connected with nature.
I was not born with particular personal or family gifts, but I remember well that my magical "rebirth" took place with great help from nature.
With a technique commonly known as "rooting". I did, and continue today, to do what you described, but with the ground.
Plunging my bare hands into the earth and grass, I did exactly the same thing.
Listening to his "breath", communicating with the earth and visualizing energy coming out of me and energy coming to me from the ground. This exchange allowed me not only to feel better, but also to hone my communication skills.
The roots of the trees caught my attention, so I started communicating with them.
The same goes for creatures from underground or those that live in the woods.
Thus began a path that has led me to this day.
This post reminded me of the importance of staying in communication with trees and plants, thank you

Sending light from the heart to the tree is generally useful - but not all trees like humans.

And then there are nature spirits that care for the trees. It is useful to get them on side also

Oef trees. I once met one tree that was planted in a park by forced laborers in Amsterdam during WOII and it thought me patience. It was very very harsh. But i accepted and bowed. Years later it connected me with trees all over the world to learn and see. When i moved there was yet an other tree that took care of me. And one day i had a dream about a native american friend i once met online, he was spirit bear in his tribe and i dreamed his death. Days after that the tree who was taking care of me was killed and shaped into a bear by the gardeners of my city. An other tree in front of my window smiled at me and i asked if i again needed patience, the next day a storm came and the tree fell in a full carpark without doing any damage.

Trees are strange, beautiful and imo very magickal and wyrd.

Many years ago I was walking at midnight in midwinter through trees on a hill above Forres (witches in Macbeth). There was a tree I knew - one of a pair that cleared the auras of people walking on a path on the sacred hill. The pair, either side of the path, were sometimes referred to as "the scrubbers"

The tree called itself Irwin. So I greeted the tree and it offered to keep the rather cold wind off me, so I accepted and it worked even though I was on the windward side.

Irwin said that he had been fed twice that night: firstly by the rain, and secondly, now that the clouds had cleared, by the starlight. He said that the starlight contained the patterns for his unfoldment.

Perhaps the same is true for many species - hence perhaps human interest in astrology.

Nature is awesome! Whenever they cut a Tree down, I get very upset. I enjoy nature, and where I live now, I have a yard that looks so enchanted. The Trees look so peaceful, and knowing Spring is here, the grass is turning green.

The tree outside my bedroom window specializes in energy from Sirius. The tree seems rather pleased with itself
