I hear the U.S. Democrat Party is seeking to retire Biden after the disappointing (but predictable) debate. So who's the go to guy (gal/other)? Personally, I want Harris to be nominated and to win. Something like how Victorian-era medicos would administer borderline doses of strychnine to patients in the throes of heart attack. A spirit of "catastrophe or catharsis and caution be damned!"

They’ll probably stick with Binden. Honestly I can’t think of a prominent member of either party that I would actually want to vote for.

*Best case scenario both parties fall flat on their face and need to rebuild from the ground up imo. Unlikely but one can hope.

I heard there was a Kennedy in the running this year, is at like 12% in some poles. He sounds cool in his policy but who knows what's psy-ops and what's real news anymore 🦉🍸

Kennedyolotry remains a religion about on a par with the Methodist Church when it comes to devout membership among Americans. I know: my dad faced Hyannis Port 5 times daily and genuflected. The name alone is worth a 10% bump in any poll.

This is a perfect painting of the failings of a two party system, and democracy granted to dipshits.

Either they do nothing and people vote for the lesser of 2 evils (i.e. they end up voting for Trump or not voting at all which is essentially a vote for Trump) - and let's be real here. Trump is the lesser of the 2 evils. If you think Biden would be a better president then you belong in the same mental or elderly care institution as him.

Or they prop up someone even worse (but more coherent) than Biden and people vote for that person instead simply because they aren't Trump.

This isn't politics anymore, it's comedy (at least for me).

Project 2025 has some pretty intense changes, if Trump does go into office it'll be a different trip second time around. The conservative party is rearing up to make some moves.

At this point I would settle for a lamb president.

Kamala, maybe Michelle O., Gavin Newsom or RFK Jr. if he decided to return to Democrat party?

Thanks to the gods that I dwell outside the frontiers of the pax americana.

I’d wager that M.O. wants nothing to do with that circus. Didn’t they disown RFK as a conspiracy theory nut? I’m sure the other two are chomping at the bit for the chance.

tbh I don’t pay as much attention as I use to. Presidential debates used to be my Super Bowl but these days I just feel dirty for having watched them.

Five minutes of the first Prez debate was enough to crack me up.

Is she in fact spoken of in The Book of Revelations?
I imbibe my apocalyptics from other springs. In any case, I doubt she's mentioned in Revalations. We're a long, long away from wallowing in well and truly shite. That's the problem with Christian fundamentalists: they're always too optimistic about what constitutes "abomination." (I knew a lad from the Ozarks who thought St. Pauli Girl beer was blaspheming Paul of Tarsus.)

I know this is needlessly pedantic, but it's the "Book of Revelation" not the "Book of Revelations".

And all of this seems a bit pointless now that the Supreme Court basically retroactively made Watergate legal.

A smart choice. Do you think she would accept the nomination if it were offered to her?
Why smart? She was a mere spectator to the Big O's two terms. One could say the same for a lot of White House staff. Her resume is pretty thin when it comes to leadership or political jiu-jitsu.

Oh---excuse me. I thought we were discussing likely results as a leader. We're talking electability? Well, yeah. Trump is a malevolent clown; Biden? I'll play nice: he has gotten too old and senescent. Time is no one's pal. Michelle O has the advantages of being (it seems) "nice," plus she's a demographic two-fer that inclusivists will swoon for. Ross N. Feratter's wet dream. And that thin resume? Hey, once she's in office, she'll be pliable as overcooked linguine. The sort of POTUS to rock new fashions, but never a boat. Enjoy.

Authorized Redneck Version, put out only by the First Church of Deplorables.

needlessly pedantic
The reason we have a "Controversy" section now?

(I knew a lad from the Ozarks who thought St. Pauli Girl beer was blaspheming Paul of Tarsus.)
I think that's in the Acts of Trump, Book 2 - or maybe in the Epistles of Clinton....(ARV)

Why not Oprah?
Seriously.

Hey, if half of what is said about Hunter B. is true, the decision protects his dad too. For that matter, it protects Obama who had more U.S. citizens whacked out than did ever such groups as the 80's far-Right "Die Brueder Schweigen" and the Unabomber combined.

While it might be permissible for a Brit to butt in on U.S. politics, it is utter naivete to say Trump's legal troubles are anything but a political hit job. And as I stated earlier, I consider the man a malevolent clown. The peanut gallery applauds when the Red heroes purge the Czar and family; are left shaking heads and muttering when, a decade or two later, Trotsky is murdered along with anonymous millions. THAT is the road Biden's handler have taken the first steps down. Enjoy your poltroon's pit.

Even Simple Simon knew a good egg from a bad one.
Problem is, the whole basket this time is pretty icky. Trump is like Biden with a memory (at least for grudges and slights); Biden's handlers are taking the hardball path. Joe was Charlie McCarthy'ed into suggesting yesterday that supermarket chain exec's be jailed for "price gouging." After that, who's next?
