As the title says.
Only if you're Bruce Lee and you're feeling Charitable that day!Yes. You should be able to meditate at any point, because otherwise something outside of yourself is evidently affecting you. The goal of meditation is to flow and harmonize with reality, regardless of whatever is happening. You should be able to meditate even when someone puts a knife in you.
There isn't really a difference between true Equanimity and basic meditation, you don't have to be sitting on a pillow alone in some cave to meditate, in fact the best way to strengthen your inner-peace-muscles is to be equanimous in a disturbing or disrupting environment, like an alley way when a Triad puts his blade in you.Only if you're Bruce Lee and you're feeling Charitable that day!![]()
I personally challenge You to meditate if some random nutcase puts a knife in you! Please be sure to have the Video available here so that we all may gasp in Awe while simultaneously uttering: Yep, he/she was Right! There isn't really a difference between true Equanimity and basic meditation, you don't have to be sitting on a pillow alone in some cave to meditate, in fact the best way to strengthen your inner-peace-muscles is to be equanimous in a disturbing or disrupting environment, like an alley way when a Triad puts his blade in you.
I'll do you one better, google "Monk burns himself to death and is super chill about it throughout the whole process".I personally challenge You to meditate if some random nutcase puts a knife in you! Old Hat! I've seen it more than once, though I've forgotten just what he was protesting? And... I'm not convinced he was all that super chill and not thinking: "Bad Idea, duh". The Principle that you're touting here is Idealistic. I certainly don't say it's Impossible, what I'm asking is can You perform what you're you're proselytizing here? And... in case you may not have noticed, doing something like that (either one) burning yourself or soliciting getting yourself Stabbed radically alters the direction of "this" incarnation too. It's Not just business as usual the next day, IF You LIVE?I'll do you one better, google "Monk burns himself to death and is super chill about it throughout the whole process".
Care to demonstrate? You should be able to meditate even when someone puts a knife in you.
I shall qualify that. When there's a thunderstorm, I meditate "upon the thunderstorm" because I'm friends with the elementals!
Come over and put it in meCare to demonstrate?
Well we simply don't know what he was thinking, but it's powerfully disrespectful and undercuts a man's purposeful self-immolation to project your own perspective and weakness onto him. I'm sure if he regretted his decision, it would be obvious. I wouldn't call it idealistic, I would call it the natural end to a meditative practice. The level of growth you attain is dependent on how small of a cage your beliefs put you in, this applies to meditation too."Bad Idea, duh". The Principle that you're touting here is Idealistic. The particular monk you mention, if memory serves was protesting Something? I encourage anyone who feels "called" to experience the Wonders of the "Monastic" life, don't forget to Write and Send Pictures!Come over and put it in me

I've only been meditating for about four years, I'm good at overcoming emotional and physical pain in general, and I'm successful at maintaining Zazen is busy public spaces, but just because I'm aware of the moon I'm shooting for doesn't mean I'm already there yet, or that my not being on the moon disproves it's validity.
The only Form of Meditation that has any validity for Me is Discursive Meditation. I get pretty DEEP into it too, no timer or alarm clock has a chance. "One man's beer is another mans suds"! There have been Other discussions before about this here as well. This appears to be another lap around the block in my opinion. Meditation is something that Can be one of the most Useful tools a magician can have in the toolbox. I don't pretend to tell other people what the "best" practice is for them. Once you attain "no mind", well then you have No Mind, or "Universal Mind" if thatI would definitely go with @IllusiveOwl here and say yes. I once read somewhere that meditating means "ceasing to struggle", which implies that you calmly accept any occurence of phenomenon around you without offering resistance. Impatiently waiting for ideal conditions, in this case nice weather, may be a sign that you haven't really understood what meditation is about (and a symptom of procrastination to boot). So you cease struggling with the storm, the heat, the police sirens, your quarreling neighbours, and of course you also stop struggling with your inability to cease struggling too.
Oh well.. that's at least the idea. Yesterday I confess I temporarily stopped my washing machine before meditation practice so you could say I'm not there yet.![]()

You're making yourself out to be much more effective than you actually are, just because I'm pointing out your childishness and lack of taste for a very real man's death doesn't mean I'm angered or upset, only SkullTraill can manage to twist my knickers. My "heresy" really tied a knot in your knickers didn't it? Where's that Impassive demeanor that Nothing can Pierce?

You don't understand meditation, so your perspective is warped. It's a good tool but it's also foundational, you can even use the words "meditation" and "trance" interchangeably because both require dedicated focus. If you cannot control your mind or thoughts according to your will, you will have a hard time getting effective results and it can actually be very dangerous not to have this type of self-control at higher level Work.Meditation is something that Can be one of the most Useful tools a magician can have in the toolbox.
What does this even mean.I've Always admired those that smile and wink at me as they show me the "Tiger and Dragon" burned into the inner sides of their forearms!
