(my automatic spelling corrector makes demonology from demonolatry. And I forget often to control it myself.... So I am guilty too

grin. But it is a good thing to mention for the conversation)
Yeah, I kind of assumed that based on your comment. The OP mentioned being new to this current, but it wasn’t super clear. Demonolatry is about
relationship, whereas demonology is the
study of, often filled with fear (not always, but that’s a common theme). Totally different approaches, in my opinion.
I develop relationships with demons, so I’m not someone who’s constantly banishing. Actually, the only real “attacks” I’ve faced have come from other practitioners. The attacks I dealt with forced me to learn banishing, though. Here are some personal takeaways I’ve learned along the way:
Creating Wards:
At first, I outsourced my energy (fire) into objects meant to protect me from “bad things.” It worked, actually, it worked really well. But here’s what didn’t sit right with me:
Why should I outsource my energy? Do spirits do that? Nope. So why should I? Is my magick too small to protect me directly, or am I living in fear?
If my magick is strong enough to charge a sigil or talisman, then it's strong enough inside me. I am the ward. I don’t need wards all over the house, the yard, my car, or my friend's house. Do I? I don't need protection in another room so I don’t have to deal with something nasty. If I’m constantly relying on outside protection, maybe I need to look at what that says about my own relationship with fear. I am the ward, full stop.
Standing Alone with My Fire:
When do I have to stand on my own? When do I realize my fire is enough? If it’s strong enough to charge objects, then it’s more than enough to protect me. And no, I don’t always detect something coming at me 100% of the time, discernment grows as we grow, but that’s a part of the process.
@kissmegoddess, I get it, sometimes you need a shield. I’m not saying my approach is right for everyone, or anyone but me. If you’re learning, then learn what works for you, what gives you confidence. That’s the only metric that matters. Don’t worry about what I think, or what anyone else thinks. It’s about your experience and your magick. Who cares if someone has 50 years of experience or 1000 books on their shelf? Does it work when you’re alone with the spirits? That’s the only thing that matters.
Magick and Growth:
You’ll bump into things and fuck up, that’s part of it. But if you’re too safe, you’re not really practicing magick. Magick is alive, it’s dynamic, and sometimes that means you get a few bumps along the way. Trust me, if you have a Patron or Matron, they’ll help you with what you can’t handle yet. (So yeah, if you are learning Demonolatry, get a Patron/Matron).
Go for the edge. That’s where the learning is. That’s where the power is. Take what is helpful, burn the rest. Im just another voice in the void.
Good Luck!!
