Hello everyone!

According to you, do you have the right definition of a vampire? As I know, vampires, if they are real, cannot be like something or someone that can be touched. If I’m not right, then my neighbor is a vampire, isn’t he?

In the north of Vietnam, where many minorities live in the high mountains, they believed that after sundown, someone who is human during the day becomes a vampire at night, then robs and eats animals and children; they might be neighbors, perhaps. But I don’t think that these things are vampires we can touch. And they must be things that are more complex than traditional stories. If not, then we see them as an ethnic group from ancient times. And we will not see many handsome and sexy vampires in Korean comic books!

Finally, what are vampires?

Vampires as we understand is an archetype that was created in the 19th century for fiction. Even thought it was based on different folk beliefs, it's a modern creation.

Esoterism use the idea of vampires for 1) people who suck people energy without even knowing it and 2) people who use energy for a magickal purpose.

Do i believe in vampires as pop culture picture it? No. Do i believe in vampirism... Yes.

We should start with how you define vampire, because there are many answers that can be considered true. After that judging whether they are real is rather simple.

You ask for right definition. There is not one right definition, because there are more that are valid, take different angle and it changes.

Some definitions that are true and yet... Judge for yourself, which ones are vampires.
  • Cosplayers and lifestyle people who are dressing like vamps, some drink human blood
  • people with psychological or maybe truly even medical condition, who drink animal blood for wellbeing
  • people who intentionally (aware of it or not) provoke others to make them feel angry or bad so they themselves feel better, causing people around them to feel weak
  • people who consciously and willingly drain energy from other people through various techniques
  • spirits who wander around and infest dreams to cause intense fear or other negative emotion they could drain to preserve their existence
  • spirit servitors send to people to drain them in order to bring this energy to the magus, who send them to do this task
  • spirits who demand blood offerings in exchange for their help/services
  • spirits who demand sacrifice of living being in exchange for their help/services

I'm a little confused. Does your neighbour eat animals and children?

I hope so too, but what is your basis for even supposing that this is something they might do?
I believe it is because I am weary of cultural and legendary complexity, as well as the demands of the physical world. Nevertheless, I recognize the value of vampire legends in providing a deeper insight into social life, so I question everything around me, including my neighbour.

People in wildness were disappearing through entire history. Sometimes there is a hungry carnivore animal. Other times an accident that leads to death. Person doesn't have to be ever find if scavengers find him first. Also there can happen a fight or ambush that leads to death and being buried in unmarked grave. Also a sickness can happen...

These mystery disappearings cause people to guess what happened and that slowly forms legends...

... and then there are magicians, shamans, some not so good who will do evil magic for right pay. In my country there are still some tales of evil witches' who were being paid for making someone die, priests who would perform their Christian masses for very evil reasons, occultists who were summoning demons to eradicate someone...

Wouldn't surprise me that if someone was on the wrong place at the right time that they could even see one of these summoned beings while doing their appointed task...
