Interested to know if anyone uses any particular breathing techniques when meditating?

I have used some basic pranayama techniques within Raja yoga to enter pratyahara (withdrawal of senses) - deep/long inhale and exhales, but apart from the box breath technique commonly talked about in Western magical practices I haven’t come across much variation.

Anyone have any interesting experiences using breath in different ways with meditation?

When i m in meditation I usually don’t pay attention to the breath because I am „somewhere else“.

However, I do enjoy breathing exercises (especially outdoors in woods and forests) especially of the asymmetrical breathing rhythm kind. The most enjoyable rhythms for me are 16:8:16:8 and 16:12:16:12. They feel deeply relaxing.

Thanks ByAMountain, think I’ll play around with different rhythms. Will be interesting to see if the meditation hits deeper or different depending on the rhythm.

I have done some experiments with the mantra technique. You breathe in while saying half of a mantra and then breathe out while saying the rest.
This gave some interesting effects. Sometimes I read the first half while breathing out, swapped them around.

It can lead to interesting states, something different. Almost as if breathing in energy. There's definitely something different.

The technique, according to some info, can lead to strange problems.

I have a regular mantra I use but it’s 15 syllables long so found it useful to help with timing breaths, 15 in/out etc. hard to keep it up but that’s the challenge 😊

I used to do some Nadi Shodhana for some time, it was nice to do. Preparation for meditation or for just daily activity.
Pranayama techniques are amazing, builds energy so quickly.
