Can geomancy be praticed without soil?

I want to try out geomancy, and I know it's in the name, but can it be praticed wihtout earth or sand? I've seen it being praticed just by using pen and paper, but is that actually a legit way to do it? I feel like it would be wrong cause it's supposed to rely on the spirits of the earth, but the only earth I can pick up right now is from my potted plants, I'm not sure it will be enough though. Should I try it with paper or take it from the plants? Do I need a lot of it? What's a good book to start with geomancy?

No problem there. You can practice Geomancy with virtually anything. Usually things that work in binaries. But some even use cards. I sometimes wander around with a question in mind and count how many birds I see to create the four mothers.

Geomancy generally works mostly with planetary and zodiacal entities. Not much earth entities there, though there are practitioners who like to work with the gnomes when doing Geomancy.

the best book out there is probably Greers The Art and Practice of Geomancy. Though I would also highly recommend the stuff from Al Cumming.

What's a good book to start with geomancy?

Stephen Skinners book on the subject is superb.

Pen and paper should be fine.
