Hi guest! As you can see, the new Wizard Forums has been revived, and we are glad to have you visiting our site! However, it would be really helpful, both to you and us, if you registered on our website! Registering allows you to see all posts, and make posts yourself, which would be great if you could share your knowledge and opinions with us! You could also make posts to ask questions!
Understand that visibility online is a result of making the sorting algorithm happy. Give it what it wants, and people see you. Fail in that, and you remain invisible. Quality of content is meaningless, quality of ideas are meaningless. Checked boxes on the algorithm are everything. If you ever say a word that even remotely connects to low-social-credit ideas, you will disappear. Every platform tracks you across every platform.
But are you a straight white male? If so, there's your problem. For the next 30 years we are all going to be cast as villains and removed from visibility as much as possible.
Figure out what you do well and do that with shameless self interest, and society will respond with praise. It doesn't matter what you do, just do a farking ton of it, and post it everywhere you can, demanding to be seen. If you don't, whoever does will be seen instead of you.
No one, anywhere, can do that. Anyone who tells you they can is full of shit. This is a hill I will defend to death, and I am very well prepared to do so. Again: anyone who tells you they can read your aura or that you are cursed, is full of shit, period. Without exception.

I’ve had some experience to believe that people are different, and that you should never judge whether something is BS or not. But do you think it’s true that barking dogs get attention? If so, we could start from there... and eventually hear the complaint that we’re not on topic.
Some people find it more interesting when it’s written in Latin: rara avis in terris nigroque simillima cygno.
I have no need to reply to someone who is not interested in articulating a real response. Come back to the thread when you want to actually say something.

Sounds more like the limits of your own personal horizon and experiences than reality. As an example, I had someone (from aol) read my aura from a distance knowing absolutely nothing about me and hitting the mark repeatedly about very specific and private things, including certain metaphysical things I had never shared with a single personl. So, again, your limits =/= other peoples' limits...And I'm very familiar with cold reading, this wasn't that. I gave no cues or clues whatsoever and was not asked any questions.

You might be surprised at what a person can know about another person with very few clues. People are predictable, even unusual people.
You might also be surprised at what kind of snooping was possible even back then.
If, instead of being wowed and believing, you took the time to thoroughly probe into this reader, you would undoubtedly discover them to be full of shit.
I stand by what I've said here. Aura reading = BS, every time.
If someone tells you that you're cursed, they're full of shit. Every time.
lol You think you know, but you don't have any idea. I wasn't using my real name, nor was I using a screenname that had existed more than an hour. Nor was I in a place that discussed metaphysics. Nor did I ask for a reading or give the slightest indication I had any interest in anything metaphysical. Again, I'm very familiar with how cold reading works, and this person was not doing that. I gave zero cues, said nothing about myself nor did I answer a single question. They just said what they had to say. Again, your flat-out statements just indicate your own limits and your own limited experience. But keep thinking your skull encompasses the universe.
And I've head this same thing dozens of times. In several of those cases, I've also gotten to see it from the other side. Usually, the "reader" knows the person, but isn't saying. Sometimes the person is spying in some other way. And sometimes they just guess. In no case is the person actually reading any kind of aura or whatnot.
I've been super obsessive about magic and the occult for a very long time and have done everything reasonably possible to investigate each and every instance of it that I can find. The orders, the cults, the claimants, random people online, you name it. When I say that this is BS, I mean it. I get that you assume people don't know/can't know, but I am not "people."
We cannot prove that unicorns do not exist. But, when we have explored well enough and have observed a unicorn-free world for thousands of years, we can reasonably call BS on someone claiming that they have a unicorn as a pet. In this case the unicorn is a super-power, the ability to read auras, or discern that someone has been cursed. I have explored the wilderness and given hot dogs to all the bushmen, so while I cannot say that there are no unicorns, I can say that people who claim to have one for a pet are either mistaken or lying.

I made a screenname on someone else's AOL account. I went into a random chatroom I had never been in before. I made a couple of jokes , This person IMed me and told me personal and metaphysical things about me, including things I had never told anyone in the flesh, and certainly never online. Go ahead, tell me how they knew me and knew all this, this should be fascinating.

Without knowing the specifics of the conversation, the answer is one of three things. Either A) you gave away information without intending to do so (such as the content of your jokes) that allowed the person to get a bead on your disposition toward all things metaphysical, B) they had access to personal information through some other means, or C) they made a generalized statement that you interpreted as personal.
No, this is back to the unicorn argument. You are talking to Percy Fucking Fawcett here. I've been through the jungles. All of them. If you are claiming that you know the taste of unicorn, you're going to have to do better than that.

Yes, psychic access. Did you miss where I said these were things I hadn't told anyone? I see you can't even put forth a theoretical here, though, what the 'other means' were. They'll rapidly fall apart. You think I haven't thought of these things? lol
I mean if you can't read, I cant help you. I said I'm very familiar with cold reading, I've done it myself on people. These were not generalized statements.

There are all sorts of possibilities. None of them include psychic power. Your roommate in the other room feeding info. Hacking software. Data leakage. I consider all these unlikely.
Yet I'm not making it for those claims. I'm making it for this one, or two rather.
And I would also say the same applies to a lot of other occulty things.
There is genuine weird shit in the world, and real magic, but online aura reading is not it.
Roommate in other room? Non-applicable. Hacking software? Not my account (or a relative's), non-applicable. Data leakage? Again, not my account, non applicable. Any of these things you bring up simply do not apply to the situation, I've already gone through them all.
I know any one person has a limited sphere of experience. I've had various interactions with people who displayed real abilities. You simply have lacked the privilege and since you've been involved in this for a long time, it would deflate your own sense of self to realize others have experiences and developments you haven't.
You have not been forthcoming about the details. What specific things did they say that were so impressive? You mentioned that you told jokes in a chat room, which is more than enough for someone to get an idea of where you sit on other things.
You might not be fully aware of how much information about yourself you leave hanging out to be viewed when you do the least of things, even online. Things as simple as your greeting, its timing, and your response times open you up to interpretation by others. As someone who knows about cold reading, you should already be aware of that.
Faria- You have not been forthcoming about the details. What specific things did they say that were so impressive? You mentioned that you told jokes in a chat room, which is more than enough for someone to get an idea of where you sit on other things.
They knew what I was practicing, right down to what colors I had put in my aura, and where (hence, classic aura reading). Completely private information too, no one except a psychic could know this. They also knew mundane specific details about my life. Even the best hacker in the world wouldn't have had that information, as I wasn't on my own computer or home. So you think I went on a computer away from home, made a new aol screenname, went into a non-metaphysical chatroom I had never been in before, made a couple of jokes (more like a handful of words of sarcastic response to a couple people)and a fake took from that my private occult practices and life details? LOLl As I said, I went through all the mundane possibilities myself, and they don't hold up.
I've had simpler examples. For instance, many a year ago I started an (external) martial art at the same time I was just beginning to practice the occult (I had experiences before that though), and the teacher took me aside to talk explicitly about it (and briefly psychically pressure me-he clearly had some experience in internal arts). He'd have no way of knowing other than his own psychic sense, he and I had never even talked before that. lol and no, I wasn't wearing occult jewelry or carrying books or anything of that sort.
You just lack experience, and I'll be blunt again about it. If your subtle body isn't highly developed, you're not usually going to get attuned people doing this sort of shit to you. Sorry.
Dude, you made metaphysical claims about Trump predicting Covid by saying Cofveve and the bible predicting tv and other such things. As I said, you don't hold your own claims to the critical standard you hold others.

I am sort of surprised that someone who claims to know about cold reading would not understand that (at least so far) the kind of information given is not something that requires psychic powers. Once your age/interest level can be estimated, and your language formats, a clever person could probably feed you the kind of information you have described.
I do not believe in auras, and I believe that your "putting colors" there is just imaginary. You cold reader picked up on the language you might use to describe something you might imagine. The fact that you conversed and joked a bit probably gave them enough predicates to make a good guess at some fairly common New Agey sounding jargon that happened to hit you. You probably don't see the 50-60 times this person said something similar and it didn't hit home to other people.

I do not dispute the existence of random telepathy. I think it's far more common that people expect. There are real magical and psychic powers, and most of those are really not too uncommon. None of these people have any control over it. But again, I will say that anyone professing to read your aura, or tell you that you are cursed, is full of shit. Period.
