Do you believe vampires exist in any real occult or spiritual sense, such as psychic or energy vampires? Or is vampirism purely folklore and symbolism?

of course they exist, there are also entities that embody this archetype such as Astovidad, Noctulius etc.
there are entire covens for that, although they are inspired by the folklore and tales. but in the spiritual and occult sense, they exist.

other than folk tales there are not allot of sightings or encounters. what makes you think that physical vampires exist?

First of all, don't think that I am referring to vampires as people that are extracted from folk tales and live and dress exactly like that. The Vampire was invented by such tales in the first place. It did not exist before. What existed before were people/archetypes/entities that have similarities with it, that's it.

Now, as for what is currently happening in the occult scene, there are multiple paradigms regarding your vampire taste.
There are magicians who take the energy from blood, check out "Sanguinomicon" by Father Sebastiaan
There are psychic vampires, check out "The Psychic Vampire Codex" by Michelle Belanger
There are those who take energy (prana) from people or stars or the earth or whatever - check out ND Blackwood's books
and a lot fucking more, there are more advanced people taking energy from entities, stealing their abilities etc etc.

And let me tell you something, every person is "vampiric" by default, that's what Lilith told me. You basically exchange energy with people every day. When you are sick and have 0 energy, why do you think that having people near makes you feel better? you are taking their energy! The difference is, the people that study the vampiric arts, are only more aware of this process and can do it by their own will.

ok I misunderstood. I was thinking you were talking about like Carmilla style vampires. not the currents in the occult world. as per usual Lilith is very much correct.

They do, but it depends on what you mean. There are entities that are vampiric in nature and then there are human practitioners that are also considered vampires due to their focus on energy manipulation and how they do it.

@Morell has more practical grounding on this than most folklore-heavy takes. If you want an actual conversation rather than aesthetics, talk to him

The archetypal vampire is a pretty recent construct that actually blends a lot of folk beliefs and historical figures.

The vampyre magician is also a very new thing that use the figure i mentionned above and mix it with energy work and left hand philosphy.

Vampiric tendencies (meaning sucking life force) is something that always existed, no matter if we talk about humans, spirits or witches/magicians. We just use the word "vampire" as a new term to categorize that act.

I believe Dion Fortune recounted an incident with a vampire in her 1930 book Psychic Self-Defense. From my understanding there are, as others have said, both 'vampiric entities' (think Dab Tsog) and practitioners who practice what we would call vampiric energy magick. In this particular case Fortune references an incident right after World-War I where a veteran had a vampiric practitioner attached to him. Essentially, the practitioner was able to preserve his etheric body as a means to avoid final death. In that state, one must continuously feed on energy in order to maintain the etheric body. This is where the issue with sunlight comes into play. As a being without a physical body nor the other components of the subtle body, they are vulnerable to different energies and thus must attach themselves to someone or something. She stated in the book that it was a tradition that began in Egypt and made its way north and was essentially a relict practice in Eastern Europe. With that being said, they are relatively easy to dispatch by anyone with a decent understanding of energy work as long as they are away from their host.

Against vampires, it is said, stinking garlic or holy crosses or even silver (i had better experience with gold, but its not cheap, and also difficult from time to time to apply) should help...

With sunlight, im not sure, how that works... maybe if they see themselves, and recognize their truth? But... no idea... such creatures are often aggressive or toxic, so they are always on you and not on themselves. Maybe also: the sun has to burn bright in your self, but that doent explain, why they should transform into an ashpile. Or do they already know, what they are, so you should know that too, what they know about themselves... then they really are (also for you), what they are. Hmm... could be a plan... :)

Of course they do, you have to understand in the olden days people didn't have things to distract them like what we have so many just trying to get our attention. They had simple lives with some vocation or farming and also they weren't trained to sense people who are vampires energetically.

What they saw must have been very real, as humans we are all drawn to the sexuality of vampires. I didn't even know what Twilight series was till a girl I met told me so naturally they are drawn to male vampires and guys are drawn to female vampires, it is inherent in us. Only those who have mastered their sexuality may not feel any attraction.

Any straight guy who has seen the movie 'Kiss of the Damned' would wish to meet a vampire like the one in the movie. As humans we crave for something strongly only which we have experienced before. If it is an experience for the very first time we would be just curious without intense cravings.

Our life-force's primary outlet is our sexuality not just vampires there are many entities which latch onto us to drain our life-force.
