Do you have to worship a deity to learn magic?

In our forum, the topics most discussed and studied are the worship of statues of deities and mediumship. Most of the communication revolves around one's inner sanctuary and personal talents. Participants often showcase their statues and share the detailed conversations they have with the deities to demonstrate their spiritual progress. I've seen people worshiping statues of Lucifer, Lilith, and Zeus. Is it necessary to worship statues when studying magical practices, and are there any practices that do not require worshiping statues?

There's no call for that. But if that is someone's style, then go for it.

You can do magick without invoking Entities at all. Entities just have a lot of power to them, so it's worthwhile.

Even then, I personally wouldn't worship them, but perhaps venerate - treat them with respect, like partners on a magickal journey.

No, it is not necessary.

Some schools of chaos magic are almost materialistic or at least atheistic in meaning that the gods are only in your head. But there are many practices that do not require any gods.

When you say worshiping statues, what do you mean by that? What reservations are you having? Journaling and diving deeper into this may help. Is it the appearance of idolatry? Or is it that you have an atheistic worldview?

Whatever the case may be, doing some introspection on this topic may be valuable to finding a path that will work for you!
