Do you know how badly you have to abuse a mammal to make them not have children?

This is honestly a good question. Though I would put it little different: Can you expect survival of society where people feel the happiest and safest when they are alone?

I was little surprised how little people understand the weight of this question. It is smart, but I guess that there is something that people miss. When you keep feeling something constantly, your brain will get numbed to sensing it. It is still there, but you consciously do not really pay attention to it. In this case everyday stress, fears and anxiety are still there, but people stop noticing them consciously. But they are still there, they affect people both mentally and physically. (much younger people are getting cancer, much younger people are starting to have grey hair...)

Another fact is that claim that maternal instinct is the strongest, is a myth not based on truth. Survival instinct is the strongest. When it hits, even parents act to save themselves, not their kids, both humans and animals alike. If people are still in stress, they are still half way in survival mode. And in survival, brain set on constant danger, breeding is not an option, because that one demands one to feel safe.

Just some thoughts on this question. Do you agree with me?

This is evident during periods of cannibalism. Large scale farming allows people to have large families, but when the farming stops due to plague or war, people start eating each other, children first.

More than three billion years of living things trying to survive produced every one of us. "Be fruitful and multiply" is the first commandment given to Adam. I have more children than most people do, and I could not imagine life without them. The parenting thing becomes the motivation behind other decisions and priorities. It's always going to take all your time and money and involve struggle and sacrifice of some kind no matter what you have, and it's one of the few things that are actually worth that sort of investment. If nothing else, I can eat them when the food supply collapses.

I'm too selfish to enjoy changing diapers and all that shit. Besides people is actually noticing the effects of overpopulation in the planet. Both things change your perspective. The only valid reason i would think of for having children is for them to take care of me when i'm too old. and sincerely, that's the most lame and depressing reason to have them.

The cute, smiling Quokka females, when threatened, will take one of their little kid Quokka and throw it at the predator stalking them.
Black Squirrels, on the other hand, will throw anything in their reach- like bark, acorns, twigs, etc. at a predator who is threatening them.
Quokkas are cute. Squirrels are cute. Cows are not cute, which is why we eat them more often than squirrels.
Circle of life. Save cute animals, screw the not so cute. This world needs an enema.

Are we overpopulated? We can give every human being on the planet an acre of land in California and still have room left.
Many of our cities are overpopulated, but that is a choice. This also shows that city developers still have yet to design and construct a reasonable and acceptable living condition and biosphere for humanity.

Kids are awesome. I raised four of my own and am pretty sure there are others that I have no clue about. Right now you are not ready to have one. That is fine. However, it is our instinct to breed and reproduce as humans. If you become ready, I know you will love it- and you will love your offspring selflessly. Diapers suck, but it becomes instinct.

Maybe space-wise there’s a lot of. Land, but resource wise: water access, alimentary security, health etc… the resources are constrained. During the last years, it has been explained that the number of resources available for the planet to sustain a year of the population get consumed before the year ends, usually around half the year. That means we are consuming 2 years of natural resources each year. That makes restoration of those resources a problem for future generations.

instinct is strong, but it’s not indomitable

That's also not exactly true. Studies of that type are in a very convienient spot of having clear interest in being biased and an overabundance of loose variables to manipulate without technically lying at any point. Trying to speak of finite resources in such a system like Earth is really mostly an exercise in constructing a reasoning from a set of preconcieved axioms rather than actually predictive approach. All calculations with units like "years of resources" are ridiculous, scientifically useless oversimplifications that would never exist if not for the purposes of sensational journalism.

The economy is badly mismanaged by utter cretins, but it's not a matter of how many humans there are or how many resources they use. In fact "using up resources" is probably a very inaccurate concept in itself.

Y'know...that makes a lot of sense. Toddlers as projectiles. Two year olds as Biological Warfare - literally. Mean little buggers, too. Similarly "cute" (I suppose), but also germ infested, vicious, sociopathic...

In recent, modern day application, sending kids bearing chocolate bars etc.- but wired with explosives/carrying grenades - has proven to be a very effective war tactic.
