Hello, everyone! I was encouraged to share this by AlfrunGrima and Lucien6493 from my introduction post thread. I copied some from there, and expanded on it a bit

For me, low-energy witchcraft is really about understanding energy fundamentals and how they work. So like looking at a spell's components and steps and understanding how they energetically work together in a spell. Then based on my own energy level at the time, paring it down to being more of the essentials and what I'm capable of contributing. Sometimes spell components help me not use as much energy, sometimes the work involved uses too much for what I can do at the time. Sometimes it's easier for me to snip concepts from different places and decide what would and wouldn't work, keeping my own energy level in mind too.

Like I tell those I mentor, ultimately the only tool we need is ourselves. So utilizing elements that help me focus or lend energy is great, unless the process to use them makes me use more energy than they ultimately provide me.

I hope that makes sense. For me anyway, it's more of a subjective approach depending on how my health is doing.

Let's say, for example, that I have a higher pain day and am limited both in energy and being mobile. I have to be very selective about what I can do. Well, we all need to eat, so let's say I make it to the kitchen to heat up a previously made soup, for example, and get a mug of tea. For this example, we'll say that the soup contains potatoes, onion, corn, and carrots.

I definitely don't have the energy for a more complex spell. I happen to be attuned in Reiki so I can use that on both, but I can also draw runes and sigils in the air above them or on the glass and bowl with my finger. Let's say I don't have the energy to dig through all of my spices for a larger combination of ingredients. Well, the potatoes can be for stability and healing, onions for purification, corn for nourishment, and carrots for mental. All beneficial things when my health is acting up. And without spending extra energy, I already have a nice amount of spell ingredients in my bowl of soup. Now, I have some common spices and such on the counter that I can choose from. I can intentionally pick ones that help promote healing, increase energy, purify, or also protection (after all, when you don't feel well your defenses might be slower to respond).

Stir them both clockwise, and voila, I have done some healing work with minimal effort (and gotten myself some food- also important!). If I have some energy after, maybe I'll light a green candle on my nightstand. On lower energy days, I've drawn Reiki symbols on bottles of water and called it good. Maybe I use color magic for my bedding, or have an aromatherapy necklace I put a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on. I make sure I conserve my energy on really low days too; it's important to be able to tell when you're not in a position to be spending precious energy like that.

I hope this helps!

Cool topic! Excellent ideas too.

For my two cents... When low on energy... too low to do anything more complex, I would speak. Since breathing will stay working unless you die, you can speak and better, you can sing. Even when quietly, singing some mantra with intention is probably energetically cheapest thing you can do.

I do love singing sometimes for magic, and definitely a good suggestion! Thanks for sharing!

In regards to fundamentals, there are many who find comfort in the small routines; sitting by a window for a few minutes, mindful stretches, or simply savouring a warm beverage, can all be moments where the mind is truly present. Even something as simple and oft taken for granted as breathing.

Although it might be counterintuitive to practice mindfulness and focus on being present in the body if one experiences strong pains and aches, this might have to be adapted to the individual.

onions for purification,

Onions don't purify you. They do quite the opposite. In the Vedic religion, onions and garlic are prohibited for all. In some schools of Buddhism, and Daoism, onions and garlic are prohibited for serious seekers.

And I don't practice those traditions. 😉 Though I will grant you that "cleansing" may have been a better word choice. An ex's Italian grandmother shared the folk practice of onions absorbing and transmuting negative energy (granted she didn't word it that way, but it was something that was drilled into me as a teenager while we dated). It's common in some folk practices for healing and banishment (though admittedly in those circumstances it isn't consumed; this was one I was taught while living in Virginia before my family moved south), and having lived in the southern part of the US for a couple of decades now, I was taught by several that the fumes of onions were also cleansing.

But I will certainly keep that in mind when I delve further into Shinto, which is what one of my grandmothers practiced when she was growing up. Unfortunately we didn't live near each other and I knew only the basics of Shinto as a child and when I was older I unfortunately didn't have the time.

Thank you for sharing your insight.
