Hello, everyone! I was encouraged to share this by AlfrunGrima and Lucien6493 from my introduction post thread. I copied some from there, and expanded on it a bit

For me, low-energy witchcraft is really about understanding energy fundamentals and how they work. So like looking at a spell's components and steps and understanding how they energetically work together in a spell. Then based on my own energy level at the time, paring it down to being more of the essentials and what I'm capable of contributing. Sometimes spell components help me not use as much energy, sometimes the work involved uses too much for what I can do at the time. Sometimes it's easier for me to snip concepts from different places and decide what would and wouldn't work, keeping my own energy level in mind too.

Like I tell those I mentor, ultimately the only tool we need is ourselves. So utilizing elements that help me focus or lend energy is great, unless the process to use them makes me use more energy than they ultimately provide me.

I hope that makes sense. For me anyway, it's more of a subjective approach depending on how my health is doing.

Let's say, for example, that I have a higher pain day and am limited both in energy and being mobile. I have to be very selective about what I can do. Well, we all need to eat, so let's say I make it to the kitchen to heat up a previously made soup, for example, and get a mug of tea. For this example, we'll say that the soup contains potatoes, onion, corn, and carrots.

I definitely don't have the energy for a more complex spell. I happen to be attuned in Reiki so I can use that on both, but I can also draw runes and sigils in the air above them or on the glass and bowl with my finger. Let's say I don't have the energy to dig through all of my spices for a larger combination of ingredients. Well, the potatoes can be for stability and healing, onions for purification, corn for nourishment, and carrots for mental. All beneficial things when my health is acting up. And without spending extra energy, I already have a nice amount of spell ingredients in my bowl of soup. Now, I have some common spices and such on the counter that I can choose from. I can intentionally pick ones that help promote healing, increase energy, purify, or also protection (after all, when you don't feel well your defenses might be slower to respond).

Stir them both clockwise, and voila, I have done some healing work with minimal effort (and gotten myself some food- also important!). If I have some energy after, maybe I'll light a green candle on my nightstand. On lower energy days, I've drawn Reiki symbols on bottles of water and called it good. Maybe I use color magic for my bedding, or have an aromatherapy necklace I put a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on. I make sure I conserve my energy on really low days too; it's important to be able to tell when you're not in a position to be spending precious energy like that.

I hope this helps!

Cool topic! Excellent ideas too.

For my two cents... When low on energy... too low to do anything more complex, I would speak. Since breathing will stay working unless you die, you can speak and better, you can sing. Even when quietly, singing some mantra with intention is probably energetically cheapest thing you can do.

I do love singing sometimes for magic, and definitely a good suggestion! Thanks for sharing!

In regards to fundamentals, there are many who find comfort in the small routines; sitting by a window for a few minutes, mindful stretches, or simply savouring a warm beverage, can all be moments where the mind is truly present. Even something as simple and oft taken for granted as breathing.

Although it might be counterintuitive to practice mindfulness and focus on being present in the body if one experiences strong pains and aches, this might have to be adapted to the individual.

onions for purification,

Onions don't purify you. They do quite the opposite. In the Vedic religion, onions and garlic are prohibited for all. In some schools of Buddhism, and Daoism, onions and garlic are prohibited for serious seekers.

And I don't practice those traditions. 😉 Though I will grant you that "cleansing" may have been a better word choice. An ex's Italian grandmother shared the folk practice of onions absorbing and transmuting negative energy (granted she didn't word it that way, but it was something that was drilled into me as a teenager while we dated). It's common in some folk practices for healing and banishment (though admittedly in those circumstances it isn't consumed; this was one I was taught while living in Virginia before my family moved south), and having lived in the southern part of the US for a couple of decades now, I was taught by several that the fumes of onions were also cleansing.

But I will certainly keep that in mind when I delve further into Shinto, which is what one of my grandmothers practiced when she was growing up. Unfortunately we didn't live near each other and I knew only the basics of Shinto as a child and when I was older I unfortunately didn't have the time.

Thank you for sharing your insight.

You show us, what it is to use your imagination so that everything becomes a tool. I love it, that is my approach too. One can use everything for magic or nothing, both is possible.

Thank you so much! And I agree with your perspective completely. I was a preteen when I first started working with magic (a teen when I discovered paganism) and, while I was fortunate to have a supportive mom (Dad thought it was a phase for several years but tolerated it), I still made my first wand, had to figure out how to do things without other tools, etc. It's something I emphasize with those I mentor, that you don't have to use tools if you don't have them. Or you can make something. Or use something else as that tool. A spoon works just as well for a wand if needed, for example. I've certainly used that or a pestle before while in the kitchen!

Shoot, I got in a discussion with someone once that all sorts of cards can be used for divination. They were a bit incredulous. I happened to find a deck of Old Maid cards from when I was kid (the deck was very obviously never played with), and I decided to give it a shot. They work pretty well, albeit they're a bit more blunt in their messages, lol. But if someone needs to be in the broom closet, for example, and wants something besides playing cards, who would suspect that? Sometimes it's fun for me to think of how to do something differently or in a way I haven't heard before, which probably also helps when I need to think of new low-energy approaches for different situations.

I'd certainly love to hear ideas you may have, too!

I just realized that I never responded to this! I apologize for the delay.

I absolutely think that mindfulness is still beneficial even when experiencing chronic pain. For example, mindfulness practices help with the brain fog that often happens during flare ups, and mindfulness helps me not make things worse for myself. I for one enjoy drinking hot tea as a sort of relaxation but also awareness method. Soaking in a tub with bath salts (and sometimes herbs) can be beneficial for that too.

I love that you mentioned breathing, too! I do sometimes do intentional breath work but it's actually something I want to incorporate more for days I'm very low energy. Especially with how much focus is put on one's rhythm of breathing for meditation, it's absolutely another method worth exploring for low energy purposes.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

Yes, along with pepper and some other things, because they supposedly make you more horny or distracted. But any witch here in the Balkans would absolutely disagree, since time immemorial. :) And some foods take longer to digest, and thus tie up more energy in the long run, so people avoid them, like red meat etc. But, naturally, blessing and charging the things you eat and drink is sensible and practical.

This.

Focus.
Breathe in what you want to attract.
Breathe out what you want to direct/banish.
Feel your breath as a fuel for your intent.
Imagine your words travelling through your breathe.
Find something that can match your intent while doing thing (facing the sun, being around ruining water, using a simple knife to cut off things....)
