Hi everyone! I've been playing with the PGM and the Greco-Roman-Egyptian pantheon again
The ones I've been using the most recently:
The Helios consecration from Alison Chicosky's Secrets of Helios book, PGM IV 1596-1715, a great general blessing
The Abrahamic blessing from PGM XXXV. 1-42, also a very great general empowerment
The Hidden Stele of Aion from PGM IV 1115-1226, which is GREAT for obstacle clearing in a non-aggressive way
The Headless rite (of course) from PGM V 96-172, as a preliminary invocation
The Hekate Ursa Major spell from PGM VII 686-702, for obstacle clearing in an aggressive way
Stuff from Don Webb's Seven Faces of Darkness, which is all about Set PGM magic with a slight ceremonial bend.
Stuff I'm building out from Sara Mastros's Orphic Hymn Grimoire.
I plan on using the Full Moon spell from PGM IV. 2785-2890 this upcoming full moon, the Set-Typhon initiation to consecrate some wealth talismans based on how Jason Miller consecrated his Alligator Hand talismans that he used to sell, and some other ones I'm working on adapting for some new stuff.
Does anyone have some favorites or want to trade notes? I have a love spell I'm looking for someone to try out that combines PGM IV 1496-1595 and PGM IV 1716-1870.
I wish I had more I use on a regular basis. ** scribbles note **
The famous Headless Rite is such a trusted friend for me. It's very intense so I don't do it all the time. When I do, the next day my scalp, arms and hands, are hot, itchy, and on fire. I always think I'm coming down with a flu or a cold, then I remember "Oh, right, it always does this."
I posted PDM xiv. 475-88 below, adapted for the purpose Road Opening.
Someone mentioned this ceremony on another forum, so I decided to road test it. Here's a phone-friendly PDF I formatted. Grok provided the pronunciation. https://mega.nz/file/tr5xzITA#6F83vbom8wx5Jh7rT9-GbYPs0g7_HGYkN8Qv3BEn_3A Technically this is one of the demotic spells abbreviated as...

Thank you for reminding me! I'll be sure to, uh, road test the Hidden Stele of Aion I have some Grim Verum sorcery coming up and Road Opening is part of my standard prep work leading up to the full rite. I shoud do them more often.

Wowww coooool! I'm trying this one on Monday morning for sure!
On the topic of road opening, I saw someone had paired the headless rite with the helios consecration, reframing the charge in the headless rite to be a self-exorcism. I've done it dozens of times on myself and others over the years, and it definitely works wonders. No objects needed, but incense and sunlight helps!
I can't remember where I read it, but someone said that the more they use the headless rite, the more subtle the effects are. I find when I use it now I get the general empowering feeling, but it's not as overwhelming as it used to be when I was first going for K&CHGA. Last night I paired it with the first 2 enochian keys, followed by another rite I'm working on from the PGM, and it hit MUCH more heavily than usual. I'll be experimenting more with the first 2 Enochian keys as a general empowerment to pair with these spells too
Here they are if you want to try it too:

That is too damn cool! I love the syncratism. Very much the classic magician's approach going back to Alexandria. Oh, just for backstory and lore, I "slot" the First Enochain Key into a schema using the Aurum Solis thinking here that it's an instrument for the manifestation of the Divine Presence. (However one localizes that into personal aesthetics is cool too.) . I think that is their book 'Mysteria Magica' -Volume 3 of The Magical Philosophy series, if a recall. Been awhile. I've not used Enochian since the 1990's.
Very interesting! I just recently obtained an English copy of the PGM and am about to delve into it. Been on a Greco-Roman/Egyptian kick recently (Hellenic dieties in general). Gonna watch this thread with interest!
Oh! I've been trying the Helios rite from Chicosky's Secrets of Helios book off and on for awhile, but unlike the Headless I can't get it to activate or "click" for some reason. I can't tell if it's supposed to be super subtle or I must missing something vital. (Anybody using it and have any observations or suggestions?) That is a great suggestion. I will try pairing it with the Headless Rite ...and doing more of the usual, minding timings and directions more.

I'll check it out! I heard Aurum Solis has interesting Enochian material, but I never took the time to dive deep into their works. I agree on the first key manifesting a general divine presence. Benjamin Rowe's analysis of it seems to also confirm that, while also referencing the elements of creation. Frater Yechidah recommends not pairing it with the second key, but Scott Michael Stenwick says pairing the two works well for invocations & evocations. I don't think I'd ever use keys 3-19 on anything except Enochian ritual, but 1 and 2 seem to be very adaptable!

Oh interesting, how about PGM III. 494-611 to establish a relationship first? It uses a similar ritual form as PGM IV 1596-1715, but is longer and packs a better punch
I was field testing that rite originally during an intense Underworld / Harrowing of Hell personal mythic journey. Strictly speaking Helios is not a chthonic deity (my home turf) , but ouranic, if I recall the myths. Tourists, bah! (heh). I'm already pretty "sunny" in my disposition, but have been meaning to broaden my ritualized solar incorporation to include more of the daytime aspects, so that might slot in pretty nicely, now that I'm more "above ground".

I tried this yesterday morning! I can confirm things were very smooth at work, and had almost no problems, which is so new for me. It's so much faster to use than the Helios consecration ritual too. I'll definitely be practicing this spell more!
I shortened the spell from PGM XXXV. 1-42, which seems to be effective for pretty much any success petition. Even stronger with the first 2 Enochian calls, but totally functional alone! It's super short, so please try it out if you have a chance

I've been recently working very much with Aphrodite, and I borrowed some chants and words of power from the PGM. I'd love to see your love spell, if you'd be kind enough to share (even though I can't really promise I'll be testing it out right now Though I certainly might in the future!).

RE Aphrodite rites. About 12 years ago I used the 'The Call of Aphrodite the Queen' from Michael Cecchetelli's 'The Book of Abrasax 'to sell my house well above market value. I wanted potential buyers to "fall in love" with it. And it worked great. (below)
I have not field tested the ritual enough to say if that was not by pure chance. During this working there were no paranormal effects to let me know it was activated, no serious visions, so it was really hard to tell except some minor intuitive sense. And that have been wishful thinking.
So it make me happy we have more people now interested in trying these out more. If you like, give it a spin and let us know.
First get the book and check for errors creeping in copy-pasting from a bad PDF. I did look it over and fixed many , but I'm concerned some noise got introduced.
The Call of Aphrodite the Queen
What follows is a rite wherein we call upon Aphrodite, Lady of Venus, to
asist in matters of love and relationships. The original appears in the PGM as
a spell to entreat her aid in matters of divination, however as her governance
is of Venus and its specific area of influence, I posited (correctly, as it hap-
pens) that the words of power and divine names of which the original made
use could more effectively be used to achieve Venusian goals.
1.
The temple should be prepared with an image of Aphrodite in a place
of prominence atop the altar, surrounded by fragrant roses and in-
cense of rose and sandalwood. Before Aphrodites image there is to
be placed a white candle.
2.
The rite is opened by the Calling of the Sevenths.
3.
Standing before the altar, light the candle reciting:
Shimmering-throned immortal Aphrodite,
Daughter o f Zeus, Enchantress, I implore thee, hear me!
4.
Light the incense, invoke thus:
I call upon you, the mother and mistress of nymphs
ILAOCH OBRIE LOUCH TLOR
Come in Holy Light and give ear unto my supplication, showing
Your Lovely Shape!
I call upon thee ILAOUCH who has begotten Himeros, the lovely
Horai!
I also call upon Zeus' begotten Physis of All Things,
Two formed, indivisible, straight, foam-born Aphrodite.
Reveal to me Your Lovely Light and Your Lovely Face, O Lady of
Venus, ILAOUCH.
I call You, Giver of Fire, by ELGINAL, and by the Great Names:
OBRI TYCH KERDYNOUCHILE PSIN
NIOU NAUNINIOUTHOU THRINX TATIOUTH GERTIATH
GERGERIS GERGERIE THEITHI.
I call you, beautiful Aphrodite, by your sacred words
OISIA El El AOE Y IAIAIO SO THOU BERBROI
AKTEROBORE GERIE’IE’OYA;
Bring light and your lovely face and the knowledge o f your
divine self
Your countenance, shining with Fire, bearing Fire all around,
stirring the Land from afar
IO IO PHTHAIE THOUTHOUIPHAEPHI
Sounds lovely. And I'd love to see your Aphrodite spell as well!
The above rite sounds superb as well, definitely gonna add some of it to my Aphrodisian grimoire.

I am wondering if you guys think the Aphrodite stele (PGM VII 215-218) is going to work even if I do not create it with the traditional materials, and f. In. just write it on a piece of paper to carry, or print it out. I am tempted to do that.
I scoured the PGM for words of power in Aphrodite spells and introduced them into the spellcasting part of my Aphrodisian rite. It is now complete and I'll be working it extensively.

A less aggressive compilation of the spells of Myrrh from PGM IV 1496-1595, and the spell of Eros in PGM IV 1716-1870. Feel free to make it targeted, but that type of work doesn’t always go well!
Prepare either an incense stick of myrrh, or a charcoal to burn the resin. Don’t light it yet!
Invoke Eros with the following:
Eros, you who are primordial love, first-begotten, springing forth from Erebus,
You ignite passion and love with your golden arrows,
Bare witness to your arrow I hold, Myrrh, sacred to you,
You control all, even immortals are not safe from your control
Come, succeed in my work of love, by your great name:

When you feel a change in the presence, channel the energy and force into the myrrh you hold. Afterwards, light the myrrh and say over it:

Everyone calls you Myrrh, but I call you Inflamer of the heart.

Totally, though aluminum foil holds magical charge better than paper, if you can do that instead. Venus also just entered Taurus, so for timing if you can do a dawn on Friday, I think it would be successful!
I scoured the PGM for words of power in Aphrodite spells and introduced them into the spellcasting part of my Aphrodisian rite. It is now complete and I'll be working it extensively.
Great! I'm not sure if all the words of power in the PGM are really as powerful as others. Calling in the name of Adonai, Abrasax, Ablanathanalba, maskelli-maskello or by the vowels are powerful, but names like Nepherieri noted in PGM IV.1265-74 as a sacred name for Aphrodite doesn't have the same punch. I've seen some sources noting it as a conjoined name for Hathor, and when giving it to other people to experiment it doesn't work as effectively as rituals like the Headless Rite. Nepherieri is probably an alternative epithet instead of a word of power, which can still work for us.
What may be effective then, is writing your own invocation that is segmented. The beginning can start with an Orphic hymn, then use of whatever words of power you like, then your own invocation, then listing off relevant epithets. That way you can pull from her historical source of power, power-words, your own devotion, and then target particular forms of her. Aphrodite Ourania may be nice for gnosis of divine love, but Aphrodite Pandemos would be better for external/worldly love of friendship and love.
(Based on PGM XIII) Sit. Breathe. Relax. Say: Come to me You whose Name terrifies the Demons Whose Heart is the Sun Whose Genitals the Moon Whose head is Saturn Mars and Jupiter are at your shoulders Venus and Mercury on your hips You are the shining light in the pupils of men's eyes...

Amusingly enough, I've been trying Nepherieri out (in the name of science), but it's only been two days. From what I've observed so far: I think it can actually work, but you need to have some skill in psychic projection (and the skill to recite a chant while looking at someone without coming off as a glaring creep. A very important skill ) and it's going to take multiple repetitions (well, 7 x 7 would sound about right). I'll let you know should I observe more.
What may be effective then, is writing your own invocation that is segmented. The beginning can start with an Orphic hymn, then use of whatever words of power you like, then your own invocation, then listing off relevant epithets. Aphrodite Ourania may be nice for gnosis of divine love, but Aphrodite Pandemos would be better for external/worldly love of friendship and love.
I actually have a full rite in development. I use the Orphic Hymn in my own English translations (I have two, for variety's sake - one in the Romantic tradition, the other more modern in style, but also very literal), then I follow it up with a Devotional Hymn (I've written 5 of my own so far, they're pretty short but sweet - also scouring the net for potential literary examples. I don't want to use the Homeric Hymn so as not to confuse Aphrodite Ourania with the other one, the daughter of Zeus thing - I believe that's a mythological, not a magickal approach), and then follow it up with a spell which consits of invocations and chants sourced from the PGM and some in English, to be followed by a petition.
Good point about the epiteths, I was thinking along the same direction. Pandemos for more down-to-earth stuff, Ourania for more spiritual fare. I also like Aphrodite Philommeides in particular, even composed a short pathworking to get in touch with this aspect. (Not part of the rite).
All you need is a flashlight, candle, or any source of light to hit your back and then a wall to get your shadow. After you get your shadow cast on the wall, take this list
Astrological Correspondences( from The Sacred book of Hermes to Asclepius):
Aries: The head of the world
Taurus: The neck
Gemini: Shoulders
Cancer: Breast
Lion: The back, shoulder blades, heart and ribs
The Virgin: The belly
Libra: Buttocks
Scorpio: The pubis
Sagittarius: The thighs
Capricorn: The knees
Aquarius: The legs
Pisces: The feet
The Method:
Hold your hand in priestly blessings at the shadow and start blessing it with the prayers/texts. You use the "X, not X, Y" formula. You should instantly feel a difference once you finish it; different "spirits" rule different parts of the soul/shadow and, by induction of that logic, we also are ruled by different parts in our body.
The Method: Transmutation Formula (PGM)
The method here is based on the formula of transmuting based on the PGM:
“You are wine, you are not wine but the head of Athena. You are wine, you are not wine, but the guts of Osiris, the guts of IAO” (PGM VII.644-46)
“You are the olive oil, you are not the olive oil, but the sweat of Good Daimon, the mucus of Isis, the utterance of Helios, the power of Osiris, the favor of the gods” (PGM LXI. 7-9)
You affirm with a positive charge the existence of your base material.
You negate its existence, creating a negative charge.
Lastly, you give it a third non-material existence that fills the gap of its existence.
As Jonathan Z. Smith says in the book Magic and Ritual in the Ancient World:
“You avail yourselves of that third possible verdict, unique to Scottish criminal law, neither a positive nor a negative outcome, but rather a judgement of 'not proven.'”
