I've made several athames throughout the years, starting from ridiculously lame to alright. But because I always did the LBRP without a dagger the whole thing seemed pointless after a while. Then for some reason I felt a need to get a "real" ritual dagger, and this was in the time when those movie replica's became so popular (here) that they were easy to buy in regular shops. I walked into a store, saw one that seemed not too lame, and the girl behind the counter said "that's the last one.. it's the last one in the whole country.." and I thought "o my God, I am the chosen one!" so of course I bought it for 75 euro. It is a dagger from the movie Eragon (which I've never watched), but it almost immediately felt goofy. Then a while later I again was overcome with a desire to buy a "real" sword. There was a sort of medieval fair in one of the local castles, and there I bought a replica of Frodo's sword. Took it home, used it once in a ritual and again it felt very lame and I stored it away.
Got back to making daggers again, made one from a piece of iron that turned out alright. Dedicated that one to Azazel at the time. But as it is iron.. it rusts.. and I also didn't contact Azazel that often anymore so that one still is in my room but isn't used anymore.
Then, working through the Grimoirium Verum I thought it would be good to now really put some effort in making a good athame.
So I made one from a piece of stainless steel of 30 x 3 centimeters and 3 millimeter thick, with a black wooden handle and +AGLA+AUN+ etched in the blade. Took quite some time and a lot of blisters to make but I use it every single day in ritual. Store bought crap can never feel like something you made yourself.
Then.. about a year and a half ago I wanted to make a little statuette based on the Venus of Willendorff, from green soapstone. After about 5 minutes I realized that's not something I can do, but I thought the green soap stone would make a net handle for a copper dagger.
So I got a piece of red copper of again 30x3 centimeters by 3 mill and made a blade like my steel dagger. The green soapstone however is not really practical for the handle, so I made another handle from oakwood but I never really finished it because every time I start to work on it I think "why am I even making this thing?"
Here's a pic:
