Hello, I think what you are describing is the feeling that you get when you are 'deconstructing'. Your spiritual safety net is gone and you feel vulnerable. I was also hardcore Pentecostal for many years and just loved it, except for the church and everything else, lol. So trust me when I say I COMPLETELY understand this feeling. Your response was to go back to Jesus and I understand that. But Jesus has problems that will never be resolved so I did not want to do that for myself. My solution, which was damn scary at first, was to ground with the Earth. After I became comfortable with the Earth I later decided to trust my afterlife to Mother Earth. Is Mother Earth going to do you wrong? No way! You can ask her for allies that are NOT dodgy and she will help you, as a Mother would. Another option is to instead of thinking "Where will they send me when I die?" is to rather think 'Where have I decided that I want to go?" In other words, take charge of your afterlife and pursue the place you want to be. Yeah, I spent many years flowing in ALL the gifts of the HS. I get it. You tried 'Father God' already, see how Mother Earth is different. She is comforting in a way that that I never felt in church.
That's cool that you found connection to Mother Earth. Yeah true, Earth always holds you, was here when your born, supports you while you live, and receives you when you die.

I'm done with Christ in a devotional way just too triggering for me of religious trauma, even though its the people who claim to represent him's fault and not his, just can't separate it in my mind, and instead of spending a lifetime trying to undo the damage, i reckon finding another expression of the divine is wiser, don't got much time left on this earth tbh.
But I still keep a thread of connection with Christ as a last resort nuke-like banishing (i tend to go to far with spirits at times and get hauntings or parasites... recently a death spirit that was actively fatiguing my wife and I and scaring our cats and giving us thoughts of wanting to die... but prayed to Christ, channeled Holy Spirit via tongues, and BOOM! Felt something leave the skull I anchored the spirit in and heard cats screaming outside as it happened. The house went back to its peaceful state once again).

Anyway... I was intrigued how you left the Christian gods and found your way in Mother Earth and wanted to relate with what you said... and share that I've decided to ditch Christianity altogether and explore the Tao.

To practice esoteric Christianity you do not need to be a member of the church, however it is helpful to have a few like minded individuals in which you discuss the matters of belief and congregate with a group that will help keep you accountable. For instance Rudolph Steiner mentions self initiation into Rosicrucianism, although not ideal it just sometimes isn’t practice or possible to get initiated in the more traditional way, online sources and communities are helpful but to practice Christianity in a way to better yourself, become closer to Christ and to dive into the more occult and esoteric teachings many modern or orthodox churches are more of a hinderance to these goals as you hear the pastors understanding which to be quite frank is usually pretty rudimentary, not necessarily his fault but how some of them are trained.
Part of Christ's nature is to be the head of the Church. The only thing that Christianity can ever be is to incarnate God's Bride, also known as Queen of Heaven or, notably, Mother Church. If what you are practicing is Christianity then you are by definition a member of the Church, and this is a very minimal, pessimistic clause, since Eve, the archetype of all humanity is reborn in the Mother Church.

I'm not going to add much but this: I have found tongues VERY useful in magic. I have been on astral journeys and spoken in tongues in other realms to great effect. Your Spirit is directly speaking to Spirit in the Spirit realms. I feel that if your heart is good then tongues are a more powerful gift than most people could ever dream or realize.

I guess if I have to be really honest I'm a Christian, but a vicious heretic of one. Ah, the atheist upbringing -> Christianity -> apostasy -> chaos magic -> "I guess if I can be Christian some of the time that sorta means I'm always Christian regardless, no?" pipeline...

Anyway, I'm not subjecting myself to church oversight, and have my own channels.

Ethnically German Jewish/Occitan. Raised Catholic because where I grew up, if you were born you had to get registered, either Lutheran or Catholic, and as luck would have it, the Catholic church was closer. Went through eight years of parochial school, four years of Jesuit University with a major in theology, eight years of graduate work in Interfaith studies at various Catholic and Protestant seminaries; fast-tracked to the Vatican, shit-canned by Cardinal Ratzinger, became a Benedictine oblate, posthumously ordained in Process New Thought, affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Problem was...I was never religious. Neoplatonism was baked into my bones. Belief had nothing to do with it, if you define belief as either creed or conscious conviction. For me Neoplatonism was upstream of Faith, downstream of Chaos as an organizing principle.

Basically, what I'm saying is that magick fits to religion like poetry fits to language. I never didn't practice magick in one form or another. I was always an iconoclast. I brought Vedanta to the Catholics, Kabbalah to the Baptists, Calvin to the Unitarians, and silence to my spiritual roots in the Faith of those who called themselves Christian in order to survive the Shoah.

In other words, as I see it, magick is not contrary to religion at all. It is faith itself and that has squat all to do with this spiritual category or that, or with any belief or technique or devotional object and everything to do with how you move through life, and what you bring to that movement by virtue of being alive.

Are you posting to this forum from the afterlife?
Well, sorta. I got ordained by proxy because on that very day and to the hour I flatlined in the very hospital where I had wanted to work. I took that as a cosmic joke at my expense. I never got over it either. LOL

Heya, bit of a rant.

I was raised pretty hardcore Pentecostal Christian.

Ive had pretty amazing encounters with the Spirit of Christ, but left the church anyway because of a lot of hypocrisy, money focus, and a straight lack of spirituality. It was whole lotta performance, ego feeding, inner circle, cliquey, poetry competition disguised as prayer imo. And a whole bunch of other junk I'd rather not even get started on.

Funnily enough, my Christ experiences were the strongest when i left the church.

But years later i end up in the occult and magick, as i believe a lota exoteric (religion, church) is just community building and emphasis on keeping the machine (church) alive. I felt the esoteric may be a better shot at alignment with Divine, hence why the shift.

Ive worked with Demons, Pagan Gods, and all sorts of spirits. But never really felt the immense grounding compared to Christ, so i recently reconnected with the Spirit of Christ.

Still gonna practice magick, still gonna stay away from Churchianity. But dang it seems my church background has given me A LOT of fuel for magickal correpondences. So why waste something i already got? Might as well create a magickal practice on correspondences already hardwired in my brain.

I mean I'm the kind of person that believes the church does practise magick, just doesnt say it does. I mean the reverence and sacred silence you can feel at crescendo point of a Eucharist in Catholic and Eastern Orthodox, is amazing!

Eh no real point to the story, but I'm jist curious how many of you used to be or still are christian and practice magick?

Is your magick different to your church practice? (ie Pagan Gods for magick, the Trinity for church).

Do you hide your magick from your church associates?

And other ponderings or interesting things you've picked up in your travels, from this unique path.
I probably wouldn’t call myself a Christian since my family left the church over homophobia but I still have a lot of connection to the archetypes and stories of Christianity, particularly the quakers the idea of the inner light was very important for me discovering how to maintain a moral spirituality when I shifted to esotericism
last temptation of Christ is probably my favourite mystical film aside from jodorowsky‘s holy mountain
I would say never be afraid to explore any tradition there’s pieces of wisdom everywhere

I haveto make this answer short because my parrot is jumping all over me and wont stop till he’s worn out. It’s just hard to type when he puts. his head between me and wherever I am looking. But the major occult groups of Rosicrucians and Golden Dawn based their mythos on the ideal and story of one Christian Rosencruentz. Which clearly enough one can see means Christ Of the Rose Cross.

The book “Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conception,” is the Theosophist of Rosicrucian school Bible, and may yield somw intellectual wealth to you. Along those lines is the Tarot and occult society BOTA - Builders of the Atydum. They are Downtown, LA. My sister got me their tarot lessons when I was eleven. The tarot cards are uncolored and you color them in as you learn each symbol. (My family owned an occult bookstore when I was a tween and young teen).

I opted instead for Eastern tantricism of Hindu Shaktaism and Vajrayana Dakiniyana. I am a Goddess worshipper and Buddhist. That’s a long and different story. But maybe what I said might give you some direction for research.

My parrot is having a great time and throwing up right in my eyes and ears and I needs to wipe off. TTYL

I am a Christopagan. And I do tarot and other divination techniques. And try to learn about esoteric stuff. All in secret for the Christians in my life who aren't open to that. But since I live alone i have no problems.

Doesn't look like I can edit so I'll add a few details here, I'm biulding it partly with names the bible, partly with arthurian characters as a stream of intrest to druids and the celtic side of english heritage, some shakespearan, a couple norse/anglosaxon, It's been a lot of visionary work engaging with figures and trying to understand where in the several layers of cosmology they might fit, but It's really come together, have some friends who are going to taste-test soon and see where things are landing with other christian, but also not like that, folks.

I work from a firmly Celtic position: the particularly Welsh mix of Celtic Christianity, mysticism, druidic revival (diolch, Iolo Morganwg!) filtered through Welsh cunning craft and the spirit of the Independent Congregationalist chapels.
To those who view Christianity as a monolith, I say wake up!

I very much get this. It's sort of hilarious how many Western Christians think they're a universe away from magic, and yet practice their own brand of mysticism every day. Snake handlers, c'mon, y'all, magic older than the hills. Speaking in tongues? Y'all are channeling.

To me, it seems that Prosperity Gospel is just Left Hand Path Christianity. No personal growth needed, just burning desire for power and money. Begged from a deity that explicitly eschewed both. What kind of deity would honor that via hypocrisy? Probably not Jesus. And it's very popular. I see it in the US, and all across Africa. From people that go to church, give a human their money and energy, and then gossip and backstab each other. So many churches are fueled by evil, not love of anything other than power and money they expect as an exchange for attendance and prayer.

I did have a strong Christian period in the 1980s. I was young and I think part of it was the Church in case was small, dynamic and like a new family. I'm older now and wiser, with a strong background in ancient history. I also somehow learned Latin so can read original Christian texts, or pagan texts, as well as magic texts (hugely abundant in Latin).
So, basically, I think Yeshua was a great philosopher and teacher but I doubt he ever claimed to be filius Dei, or son of God. It was, in fact, normal for some people to be deified after death so I think pagan beliefs were transferred to Jewish teachings. I don't think not believing the son of God, resurrection concept is the same as totally dismissing Jesus teachings, since what he taught was excellent. It's up to the individual to make choices either way. Besides many gnostic Christians didn't believe in a physical resurrection. There was no orthodoxy in the early days.
I highly recommend to you Passio Perpetuae Et Felicitatis, which should be around in English, not just Latin. This book shows a very different aspect of early Christianity since Perpetua has psychic visions and special gifts. She was sent into the arena to be killed by wild animals, so she wrote about her visions during that time and was unafraid of death. It seemed to me Perpetua represented a far more potent version of Christianity than you see in modern churches. In short, much of early Christianity has been lost due to the dominance of churches and denominations.

There were a lot of people disappointed by Larry Norman, who apparently didn't quite practise what he preached. They even did a small film on him called "Fallen Angel". I did like his music, however.
I have always opposed commercialisation of religion or the psychic sphere. I was watching the film "The Conjuring" and cringed over the whole portrayal of exorcism and hauntings being run as a business, by a husband and wife team.
